Off to see the Wizards: The day that WotC showed me D&D 5th Edition

I have to admit that I'm very excited about 5E. I've completely stopped playing 4E but I find myself missing D&D. If WotC can create a very simple system that lets me run the adventures I want to run, I'm in 100%.

    D&D 4E Disillusionment from 4E

You're not crazy. I had the same exact feelings many months ago and I switched to Savage Worlds. I've never been happier and I have that nostalgic feeling all over again. Don't get me wrong, I've been a D&D player for almost 30 years. If WotC gets the game revamped and streamlined, I may be a...

Savage Worlds - Hit Point System?

Just Double it. Since Toughness is mostly the deciding factor on whether a character takes a wound or not, I'd say the best thing to do would be to just double the wounds a Wild Card can take before becoming Incapacitated. Give All Wild Cards 6 wounds and only count every other wound as a...

    Changing Game Systems

Savage Worlds I have to give a shout out to Savage Worlds as well. You just can't beat this multi-genre, fast and furious RPG for $10. It's definitely my system of choice.

Was your Gamma World not gonzo?

Not a Chance in Hell!!! From what I've seen, and especially the comments I've heard from the designers, there's not a chance in hell that I'll touch the new Gamma World. Not only have they created a slapstick, zany, ridiculous RPG, they're trying to sell booster sets of cards to go with...

How Fleshed out IS PoL going to be?

They'd have to be stupid WotC would have to be stupid not to make a 4th core book—a gazetteer of the D&D world. New players can pick up the PHB, DMG, and MM but what the heck do they do then. D&D desperately needs a supported core world and, by supported, I mean a well-rounded gazetteer that...

Does anybody else give out XP bonuses for "extras"?

No Player XP I don't award XP for anything except what the characters themselves encounter. All "out-of-game" player rewards are done with Action Points.

GAHH!! Time to take a break from 3.5

Hell Yes!!! YOU SAID IT ROBERT!. I'm with you 100%. The only difference is that I houserule D&D to do what I want it to do instead of switching systems. Though trust me, I do know what you mean and feel your pain with the RAW.

Do you want Tieflings in the phb?

    No Tieflings Hell no!

    D&D 5E (2014) 4.5E D&D slated for early 2010

No 4.5 Many WotC big wigs have already said that this is 4th Edition, not 4.0, and that they will NOT do a 4.5. They learned their lessen the first time.

Would anyone prefer spellcasting to stay as it is?

Keep Vancian Casting D&D is the flagship fantasy RPG yet it has the worst magic system. The Vancian system has got to go the way of THAC0 and other outdated and unintuitive mechanics.

    It's all about the 4dventures!

It's True Yep, I just left a couple of posts on the new 4E boards before I was bumped off and locked out. It's here guys... 4E D&D.

    Anti-Tumble Feat

Tumble I just add the opponent's BAB to the Tumble DC. For example, it's a DC 20 to tumble past a 5th-level fighter and a DC 30 to tumble through his space. It's easy and makes "combat types" a little more threatening.

    Skill Based System for Fantasy

Skill Based System Savage Worlds is the way to go. It's completely skill based and VERY simple and fast.

Where on Greyhawk do you run?

Nyrond I ran an 18-year Greyhawk campaign that was mainly set in Nyrond, though the characters were all over the map by the time it was over. I used the heck out of Carl Sargent's unpublished Ivid the Undying accessory in the last years of that campaign. Oh, how I love some Greyhawk.

    Are Mega-Adventures / APs Bad?

20-Year Old 20th-level PCs IMO, runniing the APs and keeping up with the encounter challenges isn't the problem, it's the time in which the APs happen that warps all bounds of reality and campaign cohesion. Almost all APs (especially the Dungeon magazine ones), happen in a span of a few...

Dungeons & Dragons: Is anything essential?

Sacred What? d20 for skills, checks, and attacks (notice that I didn't say saves because I hope they go with the static saves like Star Wars Saga has), classes, and levels. I can tell you the thing that needs to be dumped from D&D—the entire magic system. If they do not completely scrap and...

Tell me of Kingdoms of Kalamar

Kalamar Kicks Ass I bought the Kingdoms of Kalamar setting hardback (the 1st printing that declared itself "An Epic Ass-kicking World" on the back cover) and I ended my 18-year Greyhawk campaign to switch to Kalamar soon after. I've been a hardcore Kalamar fan ever since. IMO, Kalamar is a...

My Take on D&D a la Saga...

Dropping Multiple Attacks I've been thinking about dropping multiple attacks for some time now. I think the problem is that most players don't see combat and attacks as the abstract elements that they are meant to be in D&D. A combatant in D&D is considered to be parrying, dodging, and...

Your Experience With Red Hand of Doom

Too Much Too Fast This is the exact reason that I will never run any of these new mega adventures or adventure paths as serious, long-term campaigns. They advance WWWAAAAAYYYYY to quickly, which is a problem with the core 3E advancement system in general. As a DM and as a player I hate having...
