Melf's Guide to Greyhawk Cover by Jeff Easley Revealed at Gary Con

Yeah, this is my bad. The header specifically refers to a rift between the Gygax family and Dungeons and Dragons. I read this as the rift that Wizards of the Coast created in their own customers. From Thaco the Clown to the OGL Betrayal to product surveys that excluded customers based on their...

Melf's Guide to Greyhawk Cover by Jeff Easley Revealed at Gary Con

I mean, you're right. Very few, if any, of the people that made 5th edition are still with Wizards of the Coast.

D&D General Weird "DnD Is Dead" Youtube Trend??

I think this latest wave of outrage came out in response to the WoTC Continues D&Ds Advance to a Digital First Brand (link below). https://www.enworld.org/threads/wotc-continues-d-ds-advance-to-digital-first-brand.717851/

Melf's Guide to Greyhawk Cover by Jeff Easley Revealed at Gary Con

Wizards of the Coast. They're trying to mend rifts of their on making. I still play Dungeons and Dragons, I just don't buy the products anymore.

D&D General The 10th level 2024 Monk can do 3 attacks with a BA, but only 2 with an AA

Where does the 1st of the three attacks come from? Assuming the other 2 come from a Bonus Action and a Ki Point for Flurry of Blows?

D&D General Are you content with what you have in DnD regarding physical/digital material?

I also feel that I'm being encouraged to use more stuff. Like miniatures and terrain. Customized miniatures, dice towers, fancy dice (...ooh so fancy), and screens. Dice holders, coasters, crazy dice rolling mechanisms, and ooh so many games! I can't believe it! How can there be so many games...

D&D General Are you content with what you have in DnD regarding physical/digital material?

I feel wrung-out and dry. I buy things and never use them. I have a small collection of maybe 20 books that I use. The dozens of others just collect dust.

RPG Evolution: Why Paper Beats Pixels

Yeah. I've gotten better with using PDFs, but it still feels like reading a neatly stacked column of books through a toilet paper tube on the phone, or watching a book on television with my head in an uncomfortable position. I don't own a tablet°, sorry. ° Not true, but it's not much bigger...

    Shadowdark Gary con

Shadowdark runs very fast. Initiative is a big factor. I didn't realize how much of a time sink initiative is until I started running Shadowdark. Just remember, you're not rolling to establish initiative order, you're rolling to see who goes first...period. (I've seen a few people have trouble...

    Shadowdark Shadowdark Organized Play?

Where was Booth #111? What convention was this? I'm hoping to run games for her at GenCon.

D&D 5E (2024) Assassination on a PC yay or nay?

Yay; I can't imagine playing Assassination on a Mac.

D&D General So… psionic powers are no longer purely mental?

Or Darryl Revok tilting his head slightly and grimacing. (I don't know why, but that movie was always my touchstone for psionics.)

    D&D 5E (2024) Unfreezing the Narrative

In the Conan 2d20 system there is an interesting mechanic that every time we fail we add a token or die to a pile in the center of the table. These can be used by any Player to give their Character an advantage. It is kind of fun to watch that pile grow. If we think Dungeons and Dragons is...

D&D General The "Ease of Long Rests" as a metric for describing campaigns / DM styles?

Maybe we are talking about the maximum level of difficulty then?

D&D General The "Ease of Long Rests" as a metric for describing campaigns / DM styles?

What should we call the different classifications of this aspect of the game? 1. ??? 2. ??? 3. ??? 4. ??? 5. @greymist's school of hard knocks. I like what you did with healing there. You kind of smeared it out in both directions.

D&D General The "Ease of Long Rests" as a metric for describing campaigns / DM styles?

It's always so fascinating to pull back the curtain a bit and see so many ways of playing the Game.

D&D General D&D Evolutions You Like and Dislike [+]

I agree with you, but I have to make a point. Making it important to the story that these characters do this thing in that place provides an opportunity to find out what happens if they don't. Sure, we can upend the Dungeon Master's (our?) plans just as well as we can upend an adventure path...
