    D&D 5E (2014) [Updated 2019] Fralex's Expanded Alchemy: Ingredient-foraging rules, extra items, and more

Hello again. It's been a while. I haven't actually stopped working on this system, though, I've just been keeping the changes on my own computer. I think I'm ready to share the new version with you all, though. Let me know if you use it and how well this new version works! Here it is!

    D&D 5E (2014) [Updated 2019] Fralex's Expanded Alchemy: Ingredient-foraging rules, extra items, and more

I am continually surprised and delighted people are still coming across this thing I made like four years ago and commenting on it. I've finished a PDF of a newer version, I'm hoping to put it up for sale on the GM's guild once I work out the kinks. But man, finding playtesters is hard. If...

    Unearthed Arcana UNEARTHED ARCANA Index

Do you think you could put the character options each UA article includes in bold so they stand out for those of us trying to quickly remember which article each one appeared in? And also update this post, I guess? EDIT: Oh, wait, I didn't see the rest of the thread, sorry.

D&D 5E (2014) Where do you get silver powder?

Out of curiosity, how do people keep finding posts I made over a year ago? I mean, I don't mind. These notifications are just a bit of a surprise.

    D&D 5E (2014) [Updated 2019] Fralex's Expanded Alchemy: Ingredient-foraging rules, extra items, and more

I really should. I think I'll have to stop just hoping for the perfect opportunity to playtest this in an actual adventure and just do my best attempts at simulating different parts of one by myself. It's really hard to playtest RPG things if I'm always waiting for players to try them. I've...

The Hinkypunk: a new familiar option

This is a less-ghoulish take on a Will-o-Wisp; a tiny fey spirit that does tricks with light. Originally conceived as a thematic Chain pact option for Undying Light warlocks, but fits well as an Archfey or Great Old One familiar, too. http://homebrewery.naturalcrit.com/share/SkbHae-xKx

    The Archivist

I made this a while ago but it got removed from the site when the databases went kaput. I thought I'd put it back up, especially since someone is apparently playtesting it. http://homebrewery.naturalcrit.com/share/BJZAJlxeYl Archivist Archivists are the theological scholars and occult...

Fire Giant Dreadnoughts in VOLO's GUIDE TO MONSTERS

Hey, flumphs have feelings, too! I bet from their point of view, WE'RE the silly ones, because we lack so many limbs and can't even hover with our flatulence. It's fine about the gelatinous cubes, though. I'm like 90% sure they don't let stuff like this get to them. They're pretty emotionally...

Removing the Bonus Action from Two-Weapon Fighting

Aww, but I already did math today... >: Fiiinnnnee Assuming fighter 1 has dueling and a d8 weapon: 1 weapon: ~21 damage, ~42 damage in an AS 2 weapons: ~22.5 damage, ~37.5 damage in an AS And then at level 11 it becomes: 1 weapon: ~31.5 damage, ~63 damage in an AS 2 weapons: ~30 damage, ~52.5...

Removing the Bonus Action from Two-Weapon Fighting

Sorry, I'm confused here. If you're a level 5 single-weapon fighter, you get two attacks regularly and four attacks with Action Surge. If you're a two-weapon fighter, at level 5 you get three attacks regularly and five attacks with AS. The way I see it, both fighters are Action Surging to make...

D&D 5E (2014) Why Eldritch Blast only targets creatures

As I understand it: Lightning damage = overload of electrical energy Radiant damage = overload of spiritual energy Psychic damage = overload of mental energy Force damage = overload of magical energy If I ever use the futuristic weapons in the DMG, I plan to change the antimatter rifle's...

D&D 5E (2014) Why Eldritch Blast only targets creatures

For me, the key thing here is that the ability is not just "magical blast," but specifically eldritch. It's pumping its target full of something weird and sinister. Don't think "eldritch curse," think "curséd blast."

D&D 5E (2014) Why Eldritch Blast only targets creatures

That's the reason I made this thread, actually. I wasn't satisfied with the answers given there.

D&D 5E (2014) Why Eldritch Blast only targets creatures

Oh, I've never really interpreted force damage as literal physical force, for reasons others touched on. I just see force as pure magic, that can either be shaped into a solid object (as with Bigby's hand) or focused into destructive energy (as with disintegrate). Force damage is the most...

D&D 5E (2014) Why Eldritch Blast only targets creatures

Eldritch blast can only target creatures, which can seem a little weird since the description makes it sound like a destructive beam of magical force that damages whatever it hits. I don't foresee any significant game balance problems with allowing the spell to work on inanimate objects, but if...

D&D 5E (2014) Weapons not on the weapons table: rough equivalents

Reading up on it, the liuxing chui (wait, this is also called a meteor hammer?! That's the coolest weapon name ever!) seems like it could best be represented by a whip if you change the damage to bludgeoning. That will simulate its long reach, and the fact that its greatest threat is its speed...

    D&D 5E (2014) Barbarian Totem: The Bunny

The dodging bonus idea is actually covered pretty well by the barbarian's Danger Sense ability. At level 2 you have advantage on any Dex save against something you can see as long as you're not deafened. In other words, you have heightened senses that help you react to danger more quickly...

    D&D 5E (2014) Barbarian Totem: The Bunny

That sounds like a very unpleasant ability for a female adventurer to end up with. "You gain the reproductive prowess of a rabbit. You give birth to 8 (3d4) healthy infants after being pregnant for 30 (1d4 + 27) days."

    D&D 5E (2014) Barbarian Totem: The Bunny

Totem Spirit: -Do the elk thing that adds 15 ft to your movement. It's already legal, so you don't have to worry about balance, and in addition to giving you a more cunicular move rate, it will also help your jumping ability. See, jump distance is based on STR, and as a barbarian that'll...
