D&D General How elder scroll does species

It's impossible to do without a specific setting, aka quasi-medieval setting. I mean, if you have cultures that rarely travel away from home, like many people long ago - then sure, they are going to learn specific skills inherent to their region. They'll even develop various genetic flavors, a...

D&D General Combat as War vs. Sport and a Missing Third Mode

I think your inference is incorrect here. What I said does not imply that they are the same. As the OP said, there is crossover. So picture the old Venn diagram. Now, where the two circles meet in the middle, that is where the circle for combat as theater is.

D&D General Combat as War vs. Sport and a Missing Third Mode

This. And I am not saying this to just play devil's advocate, but I find "combat as theater" to be the same as "combat as war" and "combat as sport." Identical. To me there is no differentiation.

Dungeons & Dragons Will Announce New Products at Gen Con, Modules Returning to Game

I actually think this brings up a good point I really didn't think about. I lot of the way those modules were written were almost teaching guides. a "Here is how you describe a room," or "Here is how you build an encounter." But with the plethora of online play today, it is not nearly as...

    D&D 5E (2024) How I Would Do 5.75

Ok. You are right: "It is implied that some things are changed and some are kept." I would change multi-classing. It would no longer be an option. It's ok for us to disagree. You like it. I am glad it works for you and your table.

    D&D 5E (2024) How I Would Do 5.75

I am glad it is your favorite option. I am also glad 5e has accommodated you. But the thread asked how I or you would change 5.75? I stated, I would get rid of multiclassing. I have used it successfully, both to power up my character design and/or to roleplay specific events that happened in my...

No, that is literally how they came up with chunky sauce. Prior to that, all commercially made sauces were blended to a puree. This is the story of Prego sauce, not my own.

No, I was actually referring to companies making a new spaghetti sauce. They tried to get the sweetness right, then the herbs, then the vinegar, then the salt, etc. They couldn't do it. Then accidentally, some taste testers had a clumpy tomato sauce that wasn't fully pureed, and they hit a...

D&D General Favorite Underrated D&D Monsters for Low-Level Encounters

For swamps, I like the Gibbering Mouther. It can be a scary foe if you have armor wearing adventurers in a swamp. Canyon land, I like displacer beasts. They can be deadly, so they require some plan or clever encounter skills. Plus the varied terrain of canyon lands can always make things...

WotC Why WotC SHOULD Make A New Setting

I agree. Make a new setting. Put some muscle into it. I really don't think many people disagree about wanting them to do it. The real question is: What would that setting be like? That is when the disagreement comes in.

Huh? You really believe companies always know what's best? Or that they have their finger on the pulse? Look up spaghetti sauce. Or peanut butter. Or chips. The only reason half the products work that companies make is because they throw their heavy weight behind it. It's not always because...

Is "finding the right players" a solvable problem, or just luck?

I don't think most people luck into good groups. They find groups that are good or they build them. Might they be lucky in finding them often or quickly? Sure. But they do not magically appear. They take work, and the more detailed steps people do in that "work," the "luckier" they are.

Dungeons & Dragons Will Announce New Products at Gen Con, Modules Returning to Game

We can disagree. I happen to thing for modules to actually work; meaning tables use them and they gain traction in the community, prompting WotC to make more, they need to be in game stores. I am not saying they can't make money anywhere else. They can. But for them to be a hot item, one where...

This is a cliff wall. It is impossible to climb, and magic spells like flying instantly are countered when you are within 10 miles of the wall. Pitons set in it are instantly dislodged. There are no cracks, nor is there any grips. It is perfectly smooth. It is 1 billion feet tall. Even a wish...

Dungeons & Dragons Will Announce New Products at Gen Con, Modules Returning to Game

I happen to think game stores provide a niche that places like libraries, schools, bars, etc. can't provide. And one of the ways an item gains popularity isn't just from online advertising. It is also through word of mouth. And as far as I know, no one does word of mouth better than a game store.

Dungeons & Dragons Will Announce New Products at Gen Con, Modules Returning to Game

There is much more to incorporating a setting than how an NPC dresses. There is history, culture, geography, use of magic, etc. Then there are also mood, tone, and heck, even writing style.

I think the amount of people on the project might differ though. At least that was my thinking. Seems unlikely to me too. :( That is fantastic news! I am so happy to hear that. Maybe what I am experiencing is just an anomaly. Agreed. And that is what I meant. Of course it should be online...
