    OSR New Edition of HackMaster!!!

One of the barrier's of entry was the high PDF prices. At $40 for the Player's Handbook, for instance, one might as well buy the hard copy and PDF for $60. At least there was Basic for free and Basic Plus for $1, though.

    Shadowrun deserves better

It was Interface Zero for Savage Worlds that made me not look back. But I feel your pain, early edition Earthdawn is near and dear to my heart and wish it had a better go of things over the years.

D&D General Melf's Guide to Greyhawk coming from Luke Gygax & WotC

Ravenloft, Greyhawk, and Dark Sun on the horizon; new Dragonlance novels; emphasis on "many ways to play D&D and not a single direction" anymore; and commitment to physical books because they're the "beating soul" of the hobby. Plus, hearing Dan Ayoub state, "I love our past and where we came...

D&D General What the Melf's Guide to Greyhawk cover might look like

Unfortunately, there is no way to talk about this without derailing the thread, hurting feelings, and getting showered with Warnings.

D&D Jihad: People Who Are Unwell

I honestly do not get it. Like when I go the official D&D page, why is 90% just clips of the old D&D cartoon? I would expect cool insights from the creators, anecdote of their games, upcoming projects, etc... Nope, just low tier memes and 3 seconds clips of a cartoon that's older than I am...

D&D General What the Melf's Guide to Greyhawk cover might look like

I think for me it was less about simple mechanics, but the idea that D&D isn't just "storytime", but a game to be won. I play OSR games because I like to see players accomplish that with creative solutions and role-play. For other rule sets, I think it's cool to see players do that via smart...

D&D General What the Melf's Guide to Greyhawk cover might look like

Last one I ran was Out of the Abyss and it felt like this 50/50 split was mandatory. Are the later adventurers like that still or are they more complete like PF Adventure Paths?

D&D General What the Melf's Guide to Greyhawk cover might look like

I played 5e for years before the tone started to shift. I didn't think the rules were the best, but it was a great foundation to build on. My hope with 5.5 was it was really going to fix the game in the same ways the 3pp products, like A5E, did, but instead it seemed to lean in even more into...

D&D General What the Melf's Guide to Greyhawk cover might look like

Since that's kind of the only thing WotC has done that stirred the hornets nest, I don't think it's a stretch to think that's certainly part of it.

D&D General What the Melf's Guide to Greyhawk cover might look like

I think this is more than just reaching out to the older fans. I think it's establishing identity. It's not just older fans picking up 5.5e and "not feeling it". That's awesome. Are you guys playing through a published adventure or doing your own thing? For sure! It's one of the reasons I'm...

D&D General What the Melf's Guide to Greyhawk cover might look like

I know there are people who like 5.5e. I've seen game stores around the US packed with them. That said, there is no one in my circle that's bought it. That's 20 years worth of friends and acquaintances groups. Most are like me and say it doesn't look feel like D&D anymore and the other players...

D&D General What the Melf's Guide to Greyhawk cover might look like

Unless a 6e is dropping, I don't think this will happen either. But would be cool... Not just the art, but the lore changes and rules as well. Which is why I'm interested in this. I've listened to Luke talk about his vision, so sounds like: art I like, lore I like, and rule changes I like...

D&D General What the Melf's Guide to Greyhawk cover might look like

Exactly. I think you're underestimating just how many people didn't bite with 5.5e, but that said, it's still another demographic to sell product to again by just releasing a new dedicated line of products with either a slimmed down rule book (only classic material), new starter set, or even...

D&D General What the Melf's Guide to Greyhawk cover might look like

@Whizbang Dustyboots @mamba Understand it sounds far fetched, but I think the reality is if they want to grab those like me that have left, they have to make it separate from the 5.5e rule books or the entire effort fails. There are so many rumors circulating of a new edition already, the hope...

D&D General What the Melf's Guide to Greyhawk cover might look like

Agree, but staying optimistic. After completely restructuring the design team, now is as good of a time as ever to mend the grog bridge they lit on fire. Apologizing to the Gygax family for mistreatment is a good first step. The next logical good step is to give us our own little spot in the...

    Homebrew 2d10 vs 1d20

I ran 5e for about 5 years straight using 2d10 for Ability Checks (combat was still d20 to maintain the randomness) and I thought it worked great. D20 rolls were just too random for tasks these characters were suppose to be experts. Worth noting that this goes against the design philosophy of...
