Melf's Guide to Greyhawk Cover by Jeff Easley Revealed at Gary Con

In the grand river of D&D inspired gaming, it is. It's no where near Pathfinder, Tales of the Valiant or even Daggerheart in terms of headspace, let alone shelf space. I'm not saying it's a bad game (I have loved many a game with a niche audience) but I was responding to what I thought was a...

Melf's Guide to Greyhawk Cover by Jeff Easley Revealed at Gary Con

I'm sure WotC can't WAIT to release a brand new product for their oldest setting helmed by the a celebrated creator for an obscure retro clone practically nobody has heard of instead for the largest and best selling RPG they own. 🙄

Wes Schneider Is the Product Lead for Ravenloft: The Horrors Within

Wes has been doing good horror in ttrpgs since his days with Goodman Games. I'm absolutely comfortable with him being the standard bearer for Ravenloft.

Melf's Guide to Greyhawk Cover by Jeff Easley Revealed at Gary Con

Do keep in mind that what Luke and WotC will consider gritty will absolutely not be recreating the "Your PC dies before you even name them" style of OSR people claim was the norm. If nothing else, they may tinker with the rest mechanics or dying rules, but I don't imagine they are going to waste...

D&D General Melf's Guide to Greyhawk Coming From Luke Gygax & WotC

They get to say "Here is the original D&D setting, with information from one of its first players and son of it's Creator." That alone will peak curiosity beyond the usual ho hum, another setting book. Newer fans might be interested in seeing where it all began. Older fans to see if it does...

Melf's Guide to Greyhawk Cover by Jeff Easley Revealed at Gary Con

I mean, even if Gary and WotC made enough peace to agree to bury the hatchet, it's not like they chose to collaborate with each other. If nothing else, Luke is willing to work with WotC on D&D on terms better than acknowledging Mistakes Were Made. Maybe less of an armistice and more of a time...

Dungeons & Dragons Will Announce New Products at Gen Con, Modules Returning to Game

The point is orcs in Eberron aren't typically the raider types that were common in Realms or Greyhawk and thus will need more explanation. Except for changing the whole nature of the encounter. You might as well write "sitting at the table are five CR 2 monsters appropriate to your campaign"...

Dungeons & Dragons Will Announce New Products at Gen Con, Modules Returning to Game

Well, except for the fact that the Eberron version the orcs would druids, in the Dragonlance version they would be replaced with Draconians and the Ravenloft version the orcs would be vampires. Everyone wants D&D settings to have all these unique elements and restrictions and then they want...

Melf's Guide to Greyhawk Cover by Jeff Easley Revealed at Gary Con

Neither Keith Baker's nor Ed Greenwood's DMGuild products need any WotC involvement other than what's already in the Guild and a promise they won't contradict what's in the WotC published setting books. Other than that, they can do what they want. Luke's book seems to be a more official version...

D&D General Melf's Guide to Greyhawk Coming From Luke Gygax & WotC

100%. Greyhawk is supposed to be a framework for other people's games. Everyone's Greyhawk is supposed to be different and tailored to that DM. So the idea that Greyhawk should be doing any limiting is aenethina to the point.

    D&D 5E (2024) So What Is Winter's Mysterious D&D "Season of Champions"?

The ONLY reason I still don't think its Greyhawk OR Dragonlance is they explicitly said they were holding back on announcing the Q4 product until later so as to let them build hype for it and to give the rest of the 2026 books room to breathe and build hype. If they said that and the immediately...

D&D General Melf's Guide to Greyhawk Coming From Luke Gygax & WotC

Nothing could kill any interest in this product more than this for me OSR players have a new retro clone coming out every other day but it's never enough. Won't be happy until they AD&D 3rd edition is made with all the racial limits, class restrictions and level caps back in place.
