D&D 5E Enhancing "Hoard of the Dragon Queen" (Practical stuff to try at your table!)

Completely agree with everything you said. No adventure is going to be perfect. You have to tweak it to suit your group, and your DMing style. I'm a player in HotDQ. Just finished chapter 3. Ever since I saw that massive dragon flying over Greenast and not laying waste to the town or raising the...

D&D 5E Is the Champion weak compared to Battle Master?

I would say listen to what people have to say and make your decisions Imaro. D&D has a long history, passionate supporters, edition warriors and lots of scar tissue. In the end, it can only be as good as each group collectively makes it.

D&D 5E Is the Champion weak compared to Battle Master?

I'm in a three player party w/a champion. I wouldn't play one personally. But for a player who is not rules or system focused, I think the champion succeeds on a design level. Fighter is a strong class overall, so champion does not hurt us much. As others have pointed out, it is the randomness...

D&D 5E Upgrading the WoS Monk

Casting pass without trace can solve this issue. I am not fan of the devil's sight warlock/monk MC. In actual play I imagine it would wreak havoc with party members. Now PWT does have a concentration drawback, but it unquestionably works with low light vision and more importantly works with...

    Monster Damage

So far as a player I like the new monster damage scales. We are using them in a new campaign, level 1, only 4 battles so far. I like fast, deadly and challenging combat. I love it. I wonder if our party will suffer. We have a few classes that are considered weak by some standards (my...

    Tension in combat

I am finding the new monster damage scales cause plenty of tension in combat. Fights very rarely felt out of control before the MM3 or monster vault or wherever these new scales came from. Now it doesn't take much for a battle to spin out of control.

Swordmage: Isn't it a little bit unbalanced?

Thanks for such a comprehensive answer. I can't say what I would do in controlling monsters as I have not been a DM. At least not for a very long time. I wonder if you will be able to continue your use of coup-de-gras with demons with the new higher monster damages. I played a long campaign...

Swordmage: Isn't it a little bit unbalanced?

I have a few issues with some your statements Aegeri. Even at epic, not all enemies will be intelligent enough to always decide to not attack the swordmage. The earlier example I gave about teleporting into a vulnerable position and failing to be attacked was somewhat of a mistatement on my...

Swordmage: Isn't it a little bit unbalanced?

This is a good discussion-I hope that it does not become too heated though. Liking a fighter's defender mechanic more than a swordmage's does not make the shiedling swordmage suck. It is merely different. Another point is that epic play is not a good measure. Epic is poorly supported, and...

Swordmage: Isn't it a little bit unbalanced?

Swordmage: isn't it a little bit unbalanced? Sometimes I think obsession with DPR warps perspective on the game as a whole. Sure the swordmage is weak in single target damage by design as a defender. So I have to take feats compensating for that if it becomes a glaring problem in my new...

Swordmage: Isn't it a little bit unbalanced?

Swordmage: isn't it a little bit unbalanced? I can't speak to the math issues at epic. I have just started playing a level 1 eladrin swordmage. I know the Dm is using the most up to date monster stats, and for average level encounters in our first game my eight point aegis was effective but...

Swordmage: Isn't it a little bit unbalanced?

Swordmage: isn't it a little imbalanced? I can't speak to the math issues at epic. I have just started playing a level 1 eladrin swordmage. I know the Dm is using the most up to date monster stats, and for average level encounters in our first game my eight point aegis was effective but by no...
