Captain America: Brave New World - Official Trailer (2025)

A bit frustrated it wasn't better (the seams were pretty obvious around the reshoot scenes, for example). But I did appreciate

    D&D (2024) D&D Monster Manual (2025)

This is useful, thanks for doing this.

What are you reading in 2025?

Finished Ray Bradbury's The Martian Chronicles, a collection of short stories and vignettes about the human colonization of Mars, standing right on the line between science fiction and fantasy. The version I read was the 1997 edition, which advanced the timeline 31 years (since the original...

D&D (2024) Where to next, WotC?

Agreed, that's why I said "anything reasonably popular". https://mtg.fandom.com/wiki/Universes_Beyond

D&D (2024) Where to next, WotC?

I think we can pretty much guarantee that anything reasonably popular from the 2014 era is going to get a 2024 update. Though they're likely to wait longer before updating the MOTM-era material, since it was designed with forward compatibility in mind (if imperfectly so in the end). I believe...

D&D Adds Two New Books to 2025 Slate, Including New Eberron Book

Also, Eberron's half-elves counting as distinct enough to be their own species in 2024, but half-orcs being erased and replaced with 2024 orcs, isn't a great look. (They should have treated them both the same.)

D&D Adds Two New Books to 2025 Slate, Including New Eberron Book

Not remotely surprised they're doing a 2024 Eberron update (already seemed an obvious product even before the artificer playtest). Slightly surprised it's coming out this year, though. Seems like a pretty short playtest window for all this material, in fact.

Streaming services, which do you have or are you getting rid of?

Just upgraded from Disney+ and Hulu separately, to the Disney+/Hulu/Max bundle. (It didn't cost me much more, and there are a few things on Max I'd like to watch.) I also have Netflix. And regular cable as well (making me kind of an outlier among my friends). However, since I have a habit of...

D&D (2024) Humanoids in the MM...

The 5e/2024 Great Wheel and especially 5e Wildspace integrate 4e lore as well, of course. (5e Wildspace is much more 4e and not very 2e, in fact - Astral Sea vs. crystal spheres and phlogiston.)

D&D (2024) Humanoids in the MM...

OK, but what vibes? Centaurs don't seem more "fey" than goblins (if anything the opposite is true, now).

D&D (2024) Humanoids in the MM...

And further to my earlier question: Considering that there are playable fey species that also differ from their monster counterparts, like centaurs, why are playable goblins not also fey? They could have differences between PC and NPC goblins without the types being different (in fact this was...

D&D (2024) Humanoids in the MM...

Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear. My main question there is why there ARE PC species that aren't humanoid, despite being "regular people" as you put it. What leads them to make that call?

D&D (2024) Humanoids in the MM...

Another question: if 2024's Animate Dead and Create Undead only work on humanoids, does that mean PCs can't create undead from fallen monster goblins (fey) but could create them from other PC goblins (humanoid) or goblin NPCs using an NPC statblock?

D&D (2024) Humanoids in the MM...

So in short: sometimes there's a monster species that's non-humanoid, but its PC counterparts are humanoids. And sometimes both the PC and NPC versions of a species are non-humanoid. Very curious why they wouldn't just be consistent: PC species = humanoid, non-humanoid = non-PC. Are they...

D&D (2024) Humanoids in the MM...

Is that the 2024 explanation for aberration NPC gith and humanoid PC gith? That the latter are a variant that was raised in the Material Plane instead of the Astral?

D&D (2024) Humanoids in the MM...

I was reverse engineering the NPC traits table for the purposes of converting other monsters into potential PC/NPC species. But projects like the one @Parmandur linked have done way better on that score!

D&D (2024) Humanoids in the MM...

Basically, I expect the "dwarven" and "halfling" parts of such to become ribbons by default in 2024, with the expectation that DMs should just use the Veteran or Archmage statblock without modification. With a sidebar suggesting species traits among further customizations, if a DM wants that...

D&D (2024) Humanoids in the MM...

Yes, I am in fact sure that 2014 me tried to reverse engineer the principles in the table. :) I compared the monster statblocks to the recommended adjustments and features, etc.

D&D (2024) Humanoids in the MM...

It's possible, I suppose, but I still suspect that level of prescribed, species-specific reworking is out in 2024. More just an A = B situation, with a sidebar about how you are welcome to customize further (but carefully not implying it's the default). Again, more like the smaller section in...

D&D (2024) Humanoids in the MM...

I'm well aware of the 2014 DMG table (spent some time trying to reverse engineer the principles early on, in fact), but I was speaking about the 2014 MM. And there's no such table in the 2024 DMG.
