Ack!!! I think they just captured this human's money, even though I am not fond of the d6 system.

D&D 5E Let's Have A Thread of Veteran GM Advice

one of the things that has really liberated my prep time is leading questions. in my profession (teaching/social work/counseling) those are often a no no. But for a GM they are perfect since they mostly require just a yes/no, and can then prompt the players into new directions with almost no...

Modiphius Announces Star Trek Adventures 2nd Edition

In the Captains Log rule book they did just that. There are no d6s to the base system. I will use that version of the system for any ST games I run. Whilst the Captains Log rulebook is intended for Solo play, it does include advice for group play, and with a GM. I would not be surprised if they...

Worlds of Design: The Art of Improv

When I am in the zone GMing wise. I tend to prep in such a way that makes improv the focus. Lately I've just prepped a few scenes for the session. And then I just follow where the players go. I have a larger picture established, its called a throughline, and I know the ultimate goal of the...

Marvels Multiverse RPG: Have You GM/Played It and Your Opinions

@Thomas Shey Or, you know, you could be familiar with the material yourself, so your comments wouldn't be based on the comments of other people, faulty or not. And thereby be judged based on their own merits, and not shift the burden of your opinions onto others.

What table rules do you have? The Social Contract

I play exclusively online, and so I have had A LOT of players. I have gone from writing essay length "here's what we do at the table" to "sink or swim". I finally settled on writing my game pitches like "looking for ads" in newpapers long ago. So I will write something like this in my initial...

Marvels Multiverse RPG: Have You GM/Played It and Your Opinions

I have read it. Like most RPG books I find it boring. But Between the artwork, and the layout design, it was functional. The chapters are all rather short. I have not felt like it was hard to find anything that I did not understand. In fact in the back there is a glossary/index. Here you will...

Marvels Multiverse RPG: Have You GM/Played It and Your Opinions

I do not think it is an overly complicated system. I would say it is simplier to create characters than in 5e (just a reference point: here's another: it may take 10-20 minutes to create a Rank 1 character)

Marvels Multiverse RPG: Have You GM/Played It and Your Opinions

Some of my players and I have test run the game in prep for an upcoming campaign. My quick review: It doesn't bring much innovative to the table (or superhero rpgs) and I am fine with that. if you've played 5e you aren't going to notice much difference in the feel of play (in terms of...

What are you favorite RPG genres?

Lord of the Rings (the One Ring iteration): I know the mythology well enough that I can just inhabit the world. Creating adventures and the tone are just comfortable! Superheroes: Same thing as LoTR. I am so steeped in the general mythology of supers its just like slipping into a comfortable...

Jumpgate Is An Overhaul of the Roll20 VTT

I've used Roll20 from the beginning, and its worked great for what I need, but honestly since I rarely play games like 5e, or similiar games, its been easy to use. I remember wondering when they started if they would last long. Glad to see they have, and that they are finding ways to be more...

The thought of switching VTTs is so daunting

When I started I used maptools and google hangouts. Thats all there really was. Then Roll20 came along and I said to myself "I wonder if it will last" but it was free so I figured "might as well". I've been using it for 10 years. I know there are better platforms, but I works for what I want to do!

After reading this thread, I realized that for me John Carter of Mars would be a very good fit. Working on a conversion now.
