Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I just ran into Joe Manginello at the local ice cream shop. I gave him the chin jut but I didn’t want to interrupt his time with family (he grew up near here and went to the same HS as my wife). I did want to say I was sad his Dragonlance project fell through, but refrained.

Fighting the Gray Tide (Miniature Painting)

Ah! In other words, the pit of despair. If I am not climbing out of it at some point in painting a mini something is definitely wrong. 😂

    D&D General D&D memes thread discussion…

If we define racism as a group (or groups) in social and economic power systematically exploiting a segment of society either intentionally or unintentionally in order to maintain that power and potentially extract resources from that subgroup, whose purported negative traits are believed to be...

D&D General Which Ranger Companion Solution Do You Prefer/Use

I rewrote MCDM’s Beastheart as a Ranger subclass.

Toying with initiative - phased and segments

My old 2E group used speed factors and casting time, but just added them to the d10 roll and then counted up. (I can't even remember anymore if that was just the rule in 2E or something we modified). I vaguely remember a rule about going at the end of the round if you changed your declared...

D&D 5E Have you seen "Squished Leveling" in DND?

I kept 6th through 9th level spells in the form of class abilities that allow the spell caster to access them at a cost and/or risk and/or responsibility. And usually can only be used once per long rest (depending on the specific class/form of access) Bard: Songs of Power Cleric: Quest Spells...

D&D General Prep is Not Play. . . Or is it?

One thing I probably should have mentioned is that when I first posted this thread my daughter had not even been conceived, let alone born yet. I definitely played fewer sessions in the first two years of her life, but I still managed to keep two games going and started squeezing in 20 to 40...

D&D General Prep is Not Play. . . Or is it?

I think that potential disconnect of interest is part of the reason why keeping a playful attitude (there is probably a better/academic word for how I am using "playful" here) during prep is a way to engage that interest on the part of the GM, without forcing it onto players who are not as...

D&D General Prep is Not Play. . . Or is it?

Certainly. But I guess the question that jumps to mind is how might approaching prep as a form of play help those DMs who do find it onerous? (Another question being, if some folks find it so onerous , why do they do it?) Again, sure. But it is more unnecessary for some GMs (or systems) than...

D&D General Prep is Not Play. . . Or is it?

Resurrecting this thread because I have been thinking about DM prep and the varying attitudes about it regarding the amount of time it takes and how onerous it might be. Looking back at my original post, I have made so many pieces of terrain of various sizes and degree of detail and literally...

    D&D General I ran a good one-shot last night (post-mortem)

I love the feeling of a well-played one-shot or really any individual session (played the 62nd session of one of ongoing campaigns yesterday and it was a great one). Sounds like it went great and your notes look like you thought through a bunch of fun possibilities. Like others, however, I...

D&D General How Was Your Last Session?

We just finished this session a couple of hours ago. .. Quick recap The group's Long Rest is interrupted by Birdbrainbeakedopus (aka Grell) and some Volts. Using strategic combat tactics and spells, they defeat the aberrant creatures. After an easier and faster trip downriver, they have another...

D&D 5E Have you seen "Squished Leveling" in DND?

This is similar to my Vanity Frankenstein 5E project. (<-- some of the things the intro post<s> describe are no longer true as the rules have developed - but near the end is a link to a google drive with PDFs for the chapters as they currently-ish stand).

D&D General The joys of playing a PC with low stats

What i like about my stat draft method is that I can throw a few low scores on the array for those who want to choose them (without someone having to have one if they don’t) and the benefit is that the person who chooses the lowest score each round picks first the next.

TSR Why would anyone want to play 1e?

My bad for assuming. I never played either version. Can't remember what the actual rule was for B/X (which is what I started with), as except for the GLARING differences (no multiclassing, race as class, etc), I get a lot of pre-3E stuff mixed up, since well, we generally played with stuff from...

TSR Why would anyone want to play 1e?

Only on a roll of 96-00 on the percentage roll as part of the actual disarm attempt. But traps can still be accidentally set off by the actions of other characters while the thief does their thing AND taking the time to do it could lead to an additional wandering monster roll, all three of which...

    Pace in your game.

Personally, I love an opportunity to say something like "Several days pass as you. . ." (whatever it is the players tell me they want to do), but I guess like some others, I let the players set that pace and give me opportunities to move time forward. That said, I generally only speed up time...

    Pace in your game.

My online group claims to like the slow pace, though I think part of that is - as someone else mentioned - is no one wanting to step on others toes. How slow? It has taken us 60 3-hour sessions over the course of 5 years to play out 15 1/2 weeks of in-game time.

    Do You Care About Cosmology?

It really depends on the game. But ultimately, I am most interested in it to the degree it might influence my specific character's beliefs and choices engaging with the world. But I don't necessarily have a preference for what that degree should be.
