    Intimidate in combat: viable?

Most of those are great if you're using Intimidate to do something contained in the part of the paragraph that says "Success: you cow a target into taking some other action" (which is what I asked about, thanks). What if you're using Intimidate to "Success: force a bloodied target to...

    Intimidate in combat: viable?

It's also safe to say that it isn't "continue fighting as if nothing happened". What actions under "cow a target into taking some other action" aren't effectively "fight=over"? (I'm genuinely curious.)

    Intimidate in combat: viable?

I think it's safe to say the player will say something along the lines of "My character says 'surrender or die' -- I will now roll Intimidate versus Will." Is the option really there for the baddie to offer secret information or do something against its will? I'm not sure hanging your hat on...

D&D 4E Top 5 Encounter Powers That Need Fixing in 4e

Sure. But if the party is made up of Clerics, Paladins, Avengers and Invokers they really aren't giving up much at all, are they? Besides, you need the Channel Divinity Class Feature to take the feat that allows the power -- which you can't get via multiclassing by the classes you mentioned...

    Expertise justification?

Every group I'm a part of (DM 2 RPGA-LFR groups, DM a home game and play in two other games) sees the Expertise Feats as something their character will take (or has already taken). They outshine most feats (and certainly the +1 attack roll feats that are circumstantial).

poll on Expertise...Forked Thread: Expertise justification?

Agreed. For 4. my home fix is free +1 at Paragon and +2 at Epic on all attack rolls and no Expertise Feat.

D&D 4E Top 5 Encounter Powers That Need Fixing in 4e

This isn't so much a crit dependant power as much as it is one that gets you a crit more often. If all 5 players had this power you'd see several crits per encounter. Your DM fiat solution doesn't work very well for RPGA-LFR games, btw. In a home game it is much easier to substitute the...

D&D 4E Top 5 Encounter Powers That Need Fixing in 4e

I'm reasonably sure everyone here is aware that it works only when you hit. But even you recognize that it will be used when "he's sure he'll hit". See how it works when the human Paladin from Chauntea with Action Surge, a Lance of Faith power bonus, combat advantage and a Tactical Warlord...

D&D 4E Do full attacks have no place in 4e?

+2 is too much, IMO. No need to get CA by moving if you get the same bonus by not moving. +1 doesn't seem too bad. I may give that a try.

    Expertise justification?

After a Swordmage recovers from being unconcious he loses a +2 (I think) AC bonus until he rests (short or extended). (I'm not quite sure about the logic of why it works that way, but it is a class feature and not a build option.) Maybe that is what he was talking about???

    Resistances and dual damage types

I've run into this problem at a couple RPGA events I've DMed. We tried to find an answer quickly at the table but couldn't. This issue at hand was that someone had Resist Fire 2 and the damage they took was "10 fire and necrotic damage". Does that person need resistance to both types of...

math analysis of DMG loot guidelines for starting PCs above level 1

I gave my level 2 starting characters 750gp to spend as they wished. Most spent it on a level 2 item but they had options to get a lvl3 or even two lvl1s if they wanted. I think 1 or 2 just bought a level 1 item. I appreciate the work involved. I think n+1, n, n-1 works well enough beyond...

Melee Training - Good or Bad?

Thanks for the replies. You've convinced me it is not broken. I'm not convinced it doesn't find it's way onto most character sheets at some point though. My LFR ranged Cleric sees enough melee action that when I saw this feat I thought "no-brainer". I will probably even swap out some of my...

Melee Training - Good or Bad?

I'm thinking Melee Training is almost as bad as the Weapon/Implement Expertise feat that many are finding either overpowered or such a no-brainer that it actually diminishes the real number of choices people have. Prior to this, you had to balance (if you wanted) your Con and Str to keep your...

D&D 4E How long are your 4e combats taking, real time?

I'm happy to hear it works for you. Nobody that I play with brings a laptop. Well, one guy did but it took him too long to do things (although he was fairly new to 4th, I'll admit). He stopped playing, however. Just trying to figure out 2 hour combats, that's all. If people don't mind and...

D&D 4E How long are your 4e combats taking, real time?

I'm wondering if any of the people for which combat takes 1.5+ hours play in any RPGA Living Forgotten Realms adventures. There, you have 3-4 combats and 0-1 skill challenges (and admittedly not all that much roleplay but there is some) and they usually take 4 hours to play. I'm used to DMing...

D&D 4E How long are your 4e combats taking, real time?

How does a typical player's turn go? Is it move (or not), pick a power, roll, damage (if a hit), done, next? Or is it, "hmmm....what do you guys think I should do?" and a 4-minute discussion occurs with a couple people piping in saying "do this and then I'll be able to do that", and "no, move...

D&D 4E How long are your 4e combats taking, real time?

My group is playing Scepter Tower. Last week we did a fair amount of RP and got through 2 encounters in about 4.5 hours (and left it just at the beginning of a 3rd encounter). This week we went through 4 encounters, the last of which was basically a double encounter where the party was...

    2 player advice

I think while healing is useful, I'm not sure you need all that much of it. Picking any two non-leader roles and having them multiclass leaders would be fine. Even give it to them for free or let them multiclass a second time if you want. A Paladin and a Dwarf of any class probably can get by...
