    Star Wars prequel questions

The Republic and the Jedi gave up their militaries when they defeated the Sith around 1000 years before ANH. The Jedi agreed to serve the Republic as peacekeepers, which was a mistake on both parties.

    Star Wars prequel questions

For his plan: He needed to corrupt and destroy the Jedi from within and without. He needed the galaxy to back him. It cut down on rebellion from the start. He destroyed the Republic and turned it into the Sith Empire and made them ask for it.

Goodman Games: Our Efforts Have Been Mischaracterized

I agree with you but JG had no debts. It was KS and they do not generate debt if they do not deliver. No one who backed it will suddenly think JG did anything for them. I think GG has stained themselves on this one for violating their word and breaking trust with the community but JG will not...

What makes setting lore "actually matter" to the players?

Polarization: Constructive criticism is often seen in the same light as non-constructive criticism. The goes hand-in-hand with the societal move to acceptance rather than tolerance as an ideal. I feel that this has driven a large amount of moral absolutism that discourages active discussion...

What makes setting lore "actually matter" to the players?

This is why I homebrew. I bounced off published settings in the 90s because I never felt like the players or I could get beyond the established fiction. I may use modules from settings but always incorporate it into my own setting. In the same vein, I rarely set my campaigns in the same region...

D&D General The Monsters Know What They're Doing ... Are Unsure on 5e24

Not a single DM in this thread has said they treat players that way. The player side has used charged language to place themselves on the moral high ground. Players get plenty of input in the game. My experience has shown that most do not care about much beyond their own character even when I...

D&D General The Monsters Know What They're Doing ... Are Unsure on 5e24

You can be the author of the setting and the PCs can still overthrow the monarch. He is only saying that he wrote the background elements. It is the same as no Halfling in Dragonlance.

I sacrifice and compromise for players all the time. What most of the DMs are saying is that sometimes there are hard lines that will make it not worth running for us. Then we’re told that this is a red flags or that if we do not run cosmopolitan kitchen sink D&D, then we’re the problem.

It depends. If I am the DM and I am burned out running fantasy, then someone else takes over or we go on break. The only time anyone took over was my wife 15 years ago and, more recently, a friend because I just could not handle running a game after my parents died. He still waited a year and...

How Does AI Affect Your Online Shopping?

They are paying for it so they need to justify the ROI. So few people use it correctly that productivity is all over the place. It is fine if you use it to enhance or improve your work but it fails utterly when people get it to do their work. The person who brought their unedited AI garbage to...

How Does AI Affect Your Online Shopping?

Our company uses Gemini. I am required to incorporate it into every day activities. I mainly use it for editing emails and creating marketing content: LinkedIn, Press Releases. I have used it for deep research for a few recent STM publishing proposals where I was doing research on peer review...

How Does AI Affect Your Online Shopping?

I was testing it to see if it could locate references faster than I could. I am required to use it as part of my job.

How Does AI Affect Your Online Shopping?

I was using AI this morning to search for references for a paper I was writing. It made up every reference. Every time.

Yes. I am a big fan. The first book is great. I have read most of the series and they were fun books but you could get away with just the first one.

We are on the same page. I try to limit intelligent humanoids in my settings too. For me, it is about resources and scarcity. I want it to make internal sense to me. I have a somewhat larger number of species for my games but only because my settings have very close ties to Faerie (FeyWild for...

Penguin Random House Announces New D&D Romantasy Book

Agreed; however, tie-in novels from publishers like Disney or WOTC seem to have a lot of drawbacks in terms of royalties etc. There have been a lot of horror stories there. Some of my favorite authors ended up destitute because their work in established properties did not pay a proper wage.
