Perhaps you take both classes at the same time and have to split your xp evenly. Take you twice as long to level but you are basically both classes.

Probably true. My experiences come from asking for players on General RPG pages etc for different games and getting nothing. Quick hits when I mention 5E though.

I always laugh when I see people claim there is a “DM shortage.” No there isnt. You just don’t want to try the games the DM/GM wants to run. “Not D&D 5E? Why is it so hard to find a game to play in?!?!?”. Try Shadowdark or Vampire or Cyberpunk etc. it won’t kill you and you might like it.

Remember when they said there would be a Shadowdark version and it likely boosted sales, still waiting. I mentioned this on the KS page and got a "It's being worked on". Didn't know it takes months to convert. Hope they got enough funds to cover all that work.

Hasbro is going to do what cheapest while still making a buck and frankly I'm surprised anything is done "in house" anymore. I would think it's cheaper to just outsource a new product. I could be wrong though

I love OSE but even with it being able to be used with ascending AC etc it still is like 3 systems holding hands. Roll low for this. Roll high for that. Etc. SD is just easier. It’s probably bare none the easiest D&D-like ive ran.

Honestly, I'd make every new thing a subclass. PHB has the standard Fighter, Rogue, Cleric, Wizard, Bard. Then everything new is a subclass. Paladin: Fighter Subclass. Druid: Cleric subclass. etc etc etc If you just want to start out as a Ranger then start the game at level 3 (which WotC...

Which is alot like AD&D, BX, etc. After you get to level 3 things are far less deadly. Reminds me of that old saying "The character that survives to level 3 is your actual character."

One thing I think that helps SD over D&D is if you want a safer time you can easily do that for SD. Add more HP etc. D&D5 is just so much you have to consider when trying to make things more lethal.

Trim a ton of the fat. Like massive HP and tons of powers. Think Shadowdark but add subclasses and maybe weapon mastery (though in a less annoying form). Just: Simplify. Simplify. Simplify. Simplify.
