Frankly, I think Gygax displayed paranoia over loss of control long before he was removed from TSR, as displayed by (among other things) some of the bizarre things he said at the time about other RPGs developed in response to D&D.

Just a word of warning, I'd take this book with several shakersful of salt. The author has cherrypicked very heavily to argue for some highly questionable conclusions. Not necessarily a bad book, but you need to have a fair amount of background reading first to even notice a lot of the holes...
