do I add the Str bonus to the damage? I played at game day this weekend. I played as the dwarf fighter who had a greataxe and did 1d12+6 on his basic attack. This confuses me as he only had a 16 str. What am I missing? any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am a little confused, maybe someone with a better understanding of the rules can help. What is the damage roll of a basic attack made with a Greataxe by a 1st lvl fighter with 18 str? I think it's 1d12. are there any bonuses to damage?
