D&D 5E (2014) Dungeons of Drakkenheim: a dark fantasy sandbox in a ruined city

In my experience, a group that can retreat fast is a great idea in drakkenheim....

    D&D 5E (2024) Wizard vs Sorcerer (a Campaign Experience)

very interesting. But I'm not sure that this campaign, although 100% valid and I'm sure you are having fun, is the one to compare the two, because comparison between then are obscured by 2 things: 1: Control vs Blast - is one PC doing better because of their class or their playstyle choice...

D&D 5E (2014) Dungeons of Drakkenheim: a dark fantasy sandbox in a ruined city

I haven't delved in this book as much as I expected. But I have to say, the apothecary class is quite well done. In the DoD campaign where I was a player, my PC was Mr Butters, a slightly uppity goblin who was an apothecary. Upon arriving in Drakkenheim, he had a major breakthrough and, with...

D&D 5E (2014) Dungeons of Drakkenheim: a dark fantasy sandbox in a ruined city

I'm in the process of concluding this campaign as a GM, and played it in another that ended about 6 months ago. It was a bit not ideal playing while also running it, but I made it work. It the hand of a decent GM this is an excellent adventure. It's not perfect*, and it's not for everyone...

D&D General Tentacles, Golems and wall of force

1: thanks! 2: the golem is at the maximum of the reach of the blob. Adding a 20 foot wall adds a "detour" that would exceed its reach.

D&D General Tentacles, Golems and wall of force

Hello I'm reaching the end of a campaign (Drakkenheim, highly recommended). The following has mild spoilers for the final battle. We did "round 1" of the fight and kept the rest of the fight for the next session. Something strange happened, and I wouldn't mind advice on how to rule this...

D&D 5E (2024) Opinions on the Topaz Dragon Reverse Wings?

Yikes! This is awful. I'm running a second Yoon Suin campaign, in which there is an "important" Topaz dragon. She absolutely does not have reverse wings.

D&D 5E (2024) Pact Of Chain Warlock is really powerful now.

So if you have armor of shadows and max dex, your AC is 18... but now you aren't maxing out your cha. And your dex won't be max for a while anyway. You can maybe afford to cast one defensive spell (AA is ok, but unless you have an easy way to re-fill it, it's not that great). If you have...

D&D 5E (2024) Pact Of Chain Warlock is really powerful now.

To me, the biggest problem with the bladelock is fragility. The hexblade was almost "mandatory" not just because of the cha to hit feature (which is now available to all bladelocks, a good thing) but also for armor. It seems they aren't giving the new hexblade more armor (a good thing?), but...

D&D 5E (2024) Pact Of Chain Warlock is really powerful now.

I think the real power of PotC is that you can now have more than one pact! If you wanted to be a "sword warlock" in the past, it usually meant pact of the blade. Now you can do both. So the "opportunity cost" has been reduced.

D&D General Belts of Giant Strength?

this perhaps is a good moment to mention an "experiment" I'm doing in a campaign. I made a barbarian (world tree), level 5, and the GM was quite generous with starter items. I had this sudden notion and decided to take all 3 stat boosters (amulet of health, headband of intellect, belt of hill...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Gladiator: The Narrative Dissonance

I think perhaps the biggest problem is the specific stat added to a vague role. I am running a (great!) Drakkenheim campaign, and fairly early in the story the party ends up in a gladiatorial match of some sort. The foes are stated - a brigand, a thug, a veteran, a gladiator. ... but all...

D&D General Commenting on "The Big Thread of Interesting Combat Examples"

Does it have to be an entire combat, or is "an element" of a fight sufficient?

D&D 5E (2024) Man I hate the organization of the 2024 Monster Manual

I too frequently operate that way. In a little homebrew adventure I ran just a few months ago, I needed a fiend to be summoned (a guardian trap kind of thing). I didn't really care exactly what fiend... having them scattered all over the place made it so much harder to pick one.

D&D 5E (2024) Man I hate the organization of the 2024 Monster Manual

Someone mentioned that there are no more "general devil traits" (since we are all using this monster subtype as an example) and that the stat block is "complete", ie I don't need to look at the general devil entry, just the statblock itself. I think that's a reasonable goal. However, it makes...

D&D 5E (2024) Man I hate the organization of the 2024 Monster Manual

my problem is that is it incoherent. On one hand, they grouped certain "types" together - now soldier, veteran and champion are together (under warrior). Very useful, it wasn't like that before... aaaand at the same time, other monsters (like say devils) were ungrouped! Do it one way or the...

    D&D 5E (2024) Magic Items In 5.5

In my "defense", I put an 8 in int and boosted it to 19 yes... but I'm a barbarian, so it is of "limited use" ;)
