    D&D Adventure Quiz

Heroic 10/17 Epic 11/17 I think they got me with the Slave Lords questions. I only own the compilation volume.

    D&D 3E/3.5 AD&D 2nd vs 3.5

In retrospect, I feel that while 3.x made several improvements to the game, many of these had unintended consequences; one which was the removal of checks and balances on casters. I could probably write an essay on this topic alone, but this is not the place to do it :) Suffice it to say 3.x...

Do RPGs worry too much or not enough about drawing weapons & what is in your hands?

I wonder, isn't this just a function of the initiative roll that's been needlessly outsourced to expanded rules? You rolled high? You drew first. The only problem that I see with this is accounting for personal quickness (Dex covers it in some editions), skill, and experience.

Gamers! (a bit of a rant)

To the OP, just keep trying! I've met a couple of good gamers here who I still play with, a couple that turned out to be duds, and (thankfully) none that have been a horror story.

    Paleo/Primal/Ancestral/Low-Carb Dietary Lifestyles

Indeed. The problem here is that the message is getting lost because of the need to simplify by labeling. On one hand, "Paleo" as a buzz-word gets public attention, on the other, any legitimate scientific research behind it (that just happens to run counter to mainstream thought) gets...

    Paleo/Primal/Ancestral/Low-Carb Dietary Lifestyles

Fair enough. I don't think I'm communicating well at all here, either :) I was referring to your question about why you would change your dietary habits. You don't have any (apparent) problems, so you don't need to. That's your answer. When I say "check this stuff out", I don't mean for...

    Paleo/Primal/Ancestral/Low-Carb Dietary Lifestyles

I don't think I like what you're getting at here. I don't work for these guys, nor am I a shill for their works any more than someone who's read a good book or seen a good movie and recommends it to his friends is. If I came off as one, I apologize. I do feel strongly about the subject...

Anyone inflicting this stuff on their RPG groups? I cooked a sumptuous beef roast for my group, so we wouldn't have to order out. I got no complaints :)

    Paleo/Primal/Ancestral/Low-Carb Dietary Lifestyles

Calories aren't bad science, just an inaccurate data model to determine nutritional consumption for the purposes of losing excess fat (weight) in a healthy manner. I have a more realistic (less dangerous) counter-challenge for you. Try the guidelines above for a month, and see how you feel...

Man! I should have just started a thread about D&D editions :p Umbran, I don't know if you're playing Devil's Advocate, or concerned skeptic, but I admit I am not prepared to intelligently debate my dietary choices here, nor is it what I set out to do in this thread. I’m already at a...

    Paleo/Primal/Ancestral/Low-Carb Dietary Lifestyles

Not much, to be honest. Individual diet plans differ on the details, but the overall movement has a few things in common: - Favoring "real" foods over processed stuff. Basically, eating the kinds of foods our ancestors could get in the wild during our hunter/gatherer days: animal products...

    Paleo/Primal/Ancestral/Low-Carb Dietary Lifestyles

Any other gamers here into this health lifestyle? I have to say, I've experienced some very good results with this. I dropped clothing sizes, look leaner, and feel healthier. I only wish I had discovered this stuff earlier in life, not that I'm old or anything, but I want to keep gaming...

Are you part of the "Lost Generation" of RPG gamers?

Perhaps I'm just conflating personal experience with others' of the time, but during the 90s, it seemed like 2e AD&D was D&D. Everyone I met that "played D&D" was playing 2e, with the occasional person using 1e or BECMI material, but playing 2e at core. What I read online about 2e having been...

Are you part of the "Lost Generation" of RPG gamers?

Hmm...maybe I was mistaken in my theory. The poll results suggest to me that either a) those who started roleplaying during this time are a minority, and/or b) fans of 2e (the rules) are a minority. I freely admit dropping 2e like a hot potato when 3e came out. Heck! I had been reading the...

Are you part of the "Lost Generation" of RPG gamers?

There's a very insightful post on Blog of Holding about the AD&D 2e era and how it's kind of been lost in the shuffle between newer D&D (incl. Pathfinder) and the OSR movement. In the post, he feels the AD&D 2e era is due for a resurgence as well as a “voice” in the RPG blogosphere. I’m...

    Sci-Fi System Recommendations

You're welcome! The D6 System: The Customizable Roleplaying Game (1996) - This one's more of an RPG "cookbook" than a full game. You can use it to make your own D6-based RPGs. D6 Space - Pretty much what you need as a base for a D6 sci-fi campaign D6 Space: Aliens I - This one's hit or miss...

Check out D6 Space Pros: - The books are now Free/OGL - Tried and true, cinematic-style system (See the original Star Wars RPG) - Did I mention it was free? Cons: - You'll have to work out the campaign setting details yourself.

    D&D 2E What was wrong with 2e?

    - Removed quite a few things from 1e, including its R-rated, sword & sorcery charm. More importantly (IMHO), info from the DMG, like random tables and "how to..." advice, is absent* - No Gygax - Probably caused the first Edition War/D&D fan rift - Made the 1e rules clearer/more accessible...
