    Quitting a group & starting anew..ground rules?

I can understand the reasons for not wanting to deal with food breaks. They're a distraction; more than once an hour has been spent trying to decide where to order from (and there's a ton of places near me). If you're playing on a weekly basis, losing an hour isn't a big deal. My D&D groups only...

    Quitting a group & starting anew..ground rules?

I agree with the content of your rules, but the way they're written is very authoritarian. One thing I've learned from experience is that rules lawyers love this kind of list, because it gives them wriggle room. For example... a smoker could argue that allowing bathroom breaks but not smoke...

    Campaign Specific Website

No, I wouldn't pay I'm using GreatestJournal for my campaigns. Even if it did become a pay service, LiveJournal is still free, and I have a number of "invite codes" for Deadjournal. If push came to shove, keeping things in email isn't an awful solution either. And there are wikis and blogs...

    The market dying?

I know this is late and tangential, but I don't hate Palladium games. I just can't stand the company and its *ahem* leadership.

    Favorite 'Advanced' Book

It's a little more than that; each template has a monster that has been upgraded, so it's a "mini Monster Manual" in addition to being a book of templates. Most of the templates are useful and innovative. I've been able to use the book almost every game, so it was a worthwhile purchase to me. YMMV.

Lords of Madness: The Book of Aberrations

John, Thanks for the great review! As far as the stat corrections are concerned, I find them to be very valuable and wish more reviewers would take the time to look at mechanics.

    Do you mark your books?

I don't mark mine per se, but the half dozen post-its and tape flags tend to give away who the owner is. :)

    Home Brew vs. Published Campaign

I usually take pre-existing worlds (usually the Forgotten Realms), and build my own adventures. I'm willing to make big changes (in my campaigns, Ulutiu is becoming an active power again).

    The Dungeon Masters' Foundation Mk.II

I've done it informally, asking players what kind of campaign they're looking for, what kind of environment (ie, location in the Forgotten Realms), etc. I also "require" character backgrounds, so I have a rough idea of how well a player will fit into the game, and what kind of issues the...

    The Dungeon Masters' Foundation Mk.II

Gaming problem... and solution? I've been having issues with one of the campaigns that I run; originally I was going to ask for advice here, but just bit the bullet and did my own thing. (I was almost at the point of putting the game on haitus as well) I'm currently running three games with...

    The Dungeon Masters' Foundation Mk.II

Fortunately, two out of the three have enough inertia that I just need to freshen them up: new enounters, new monsters, and dropping more storyline hints. The one that needs the most work is this coming Sunday, so I have a little bit of time. But I get to pull my favorite NPC out of...

    The Dungeon Masters' Foundation Mk.II

Having it offline was a blessing for me... because of a snow cancellation I'm running three games this week. A few minutes here and there add up...

    The Dungeon Masters' Foundation Mk.II

Yup. My players all have their own minis. For counters, I have a several different colored sets of glass beads (aka glass blobs, glass gems, etc). I have them marked/numbered in different ways for single and multi-square creatures. At $2-$3 per bag, it's cheap to make an army ;) Although...

    The Dungeon Masters' Foundation Mk.II

A lot of great advice has already been offerred, so I won't jump on that bandwagon... I guess the question is, who's schedule is the problem? If you want to play more than once a month, you can always start a second campaign, choose days and times convenient for yourself, and tell anyone who's...

    The Dungeon Masters' Foundation Mk.II

I put my players up against a bone naga (MM2). It's an undead naga with the spellcasting ability of a 14th level sorcerer, and immune to cold. Not only did it have excellent knowledge of the dungeon (and could teleport and dimension door with ease), but it had a stash of Inflict Light Wounds...

    The Dungeon Masters' Foundation

Heh... I feel your pain. In my high level game (RIP), the mage had a knowledge check modifier of +20 something. I use a sliding DC scale, the larger the die roll, the more successful the check is within reason. At the bottom of the scale, there was no useful information (knowledge check of 10...

    The Dungeon Masters' Foundation

Since I make give players the "option" to create extensive character backgrounds, I usually mine those for ideas. After one or two "generic" adventures to get the ball rolling and give the characters enough reason to stick together, I can start dangling plot hooks from the characters'...

    The Dungeon Masters' Foundation

I'd like to join, if it's not too late. ;) I've been DMing since Second Edition was released, and right now I'm running three different campaigns. (They're multiplying on me like rabbits, it seems!)

Why _DON'T_ You Buy Dragon Magazine?

Erik, I understand the PDFs can't be done for free... I still refer back to my Dragon Magazine CDs purchased so many years ago. :) I would ask that you consider two small things: 1. Keep the price low. Wizards has been putting out the latest releases in PDF format... for full price. Paying...

Why _DON'T_ You Buy Dragon Magazine?

I used to, back in my 2nd Edition days. I stopped for a few reasons: 1. Price. Money is tight, and spending even $40 for a year's subscription is hard to justify. Why? Because for the same price, I could purchase a WotC hardcover -- after reading reviews online, so I know exactly what I'm...
