    Buffy d20?

Angel's player gave him the four point 'dumb as a post' flaw. He threw away an immortality ring.

    D&D 4E OT: Shadowrun 4E announced

The decker is changing into the hacker. I'm sure hackers will have decklike things, just implanted in their skulls or somesuch. I'm sorry that FanPro killed your dog, but the rest of us aren't seeing why they're a bunch of fiends bent on killing Shadowrun. We haven't seen just what they'll be...

When do baby goblins become evil?

I'm sorry, there's bad news on the girl front, there. Figure of speech and all that. Hey, if you can manage to impregnate me, I'll bear whatever it is. Unless it's an alien chest burster. John Morrow, I'll respond to your response when I've got the time, probably tomorrow.

When do baby goblins become evil?

I was referring to empathy and altruism in a pretty narrow and basic sense. I probably didn't make that clear. I can't comment on Out of America, having not read it, but I wouldn't hold up areas with child soldiers are janjaweed as functional societies. Those forms of entertainment take a...

When do baby goblins become evil?

What social groups are you talking about that don't have either empathy or altruism? Vervet monkeys, for instance, have only primitive empathy (they're about the dumbest primates with complex social groups), but they can tell, more often than not, the general emotional state of other vervets...

    D&D 4E OT: Shadowrun 4E announced

I'd love to, but all I've got is the GAMA press release and a four question FAQ. Since deckers always wound up being NPCs for me, 4th is simply doing something that may make them a viable character type. Since I tend to run and play metaplot-light games, the year of the comet or the death of...

    The terms 'fluff' and 'crunch'

It's interesting that everyone is acting as if fluff and crunch (or meat and bones or pludge and chunder or whatever) are truly dichotomous and discrete. I'm not sure this is really so. When the MM says that goblins are usually CE, is that fluff or crunch? Is the description of good fluff or...

    Your least favourite setting

Thanks for the ideas. Do share when you try Iron Lore. On the thread subject, I've never gotten along with the Forgotten Realms, Dragonlance, Greyhawk, or Spelljammer. For older D&D settings, Planescape, Dark Sun, and Generic High Fantasy Land (fleshed out and developed as needed) all worked...

When do baby goblins become evil?

If you're positing free will, there's a certain upper limit to how CE goblins can be naturally. They're social creatures, and forming successful complex social groups, as an animal, requires a certain amount of predictability, altruism, and empathy.

    Your least favourite setting

Too true. IK just feels like a setting that uses D&D 3.5 for business reasons. There's nothing wrong with that, and I'm a big fan of PP, but it does make for some jarring disconnects. I'm currently looking at other systems to use to run IK. Hero and Gurps 4e are in the lead right now, but...

When do baby goblins become evil?

Welcome to the exciting world of objective D&D style morality. If I were in your shoes, I'd make goblins typically turn evil around puberty, when immersed in goblin culture. You can always saddle your PCs with the goblin kids, playing up their cute, helpless, innocent natures. You can ignore...

    Buffy d20?

There's nothing in the Buffyverse that I can see that goes against min-maxing. The Buffy game by Eden, however, is a differant story. The text explicitly encourages people to adopt a play style in which screen time and witty lines are traded against ass kicking. The drama points for white...

    D&D 4E OT: Shadowrun 4E announced

SR3 did fix a number of problems people had with SR2. Just like the glam metal aspects, some of the mechanics have aged poorly. Not as poorly as actual glam metal, but not well. I'm with you in the setting degrading, though. I could do with a complete setting reboot and a number of tweaks...

    D&D 4E OT: Shadowrun 4E announced

Everything has a problem. For myself, 3d6+mods vs. target number hits the sweet spot for general gaming purposes, but an unpredictable system like Paranoia XP's is appropriate for the setting. Playing the futuristic bandit kings of Seattle works better, for me, with the SR system. Besides...

    Buffy d20?

The system is easy to Min Max, but it's a game that requires the GM and players to agree ahead of time on what kind of game they want and then to pursue that game together. It's not a game to let the players loose with any sort of metagame adversarial relationship to each other or the GM. Put...

    D&D 4E OT: Shadowrun 4E announced

I think Felon's looking for specific examples and explanations. Myself, I think d20 Shadowrun would still be Shadowrun; I just think it would be missing some of the considerable virtues of the other versions. This is not to imply I don't have system beefs aplenty with SR 1,2, and 3. The dice...

    Buffy d20?

What can't be emulated? Some people just want to play d20, and it can do anything. You don't need your precious probability curves and initiative system to captu . . . Wait, I think I'm in the wrong thread. Seriously, Eden's Buffy is clear, well written, and easy to pick up. Unless you and...

How to run a business in Dnd?

I played in a Planescape game in which we almost started an investment bank/insurance company. The setting was tailor made for it, as the Lady will enforce contracts, making for a good business environment. Our procedure was something like this: 0) Be a bunch of intelligent, amoral, inhuman...
