D&D 5E All I do is Bless, Bless, Bless

Really appreciating the responses, it's renewed my confidence in this character. In tonight's game I got right into melee with some kind of giant worm, took a 74hp hit, cast bless (the thing had a high AC so it made sense) healed one of the barbarians and used Voice of Authority to give the...

Embodiment of the Law allows casting an enchantment spell as a bonus action, wisdom modifier per long rest

D&D 5E All I do is Bless, Bless, Bless

I feel like I just got inspiration! Some great advice here, and I'm embarrassed to admit that I somehow forgot about Voice of Authority... I'm really looking forward to tonight's game, thank you very much for the wise words.

D&D 5E All I do is Bless, Bless, Bless

I've been playing an Order cleric, now at 11th level. It's a heavy combat game and I'm feeling like my contributions are pretty limited. The other PCs are a bard, moon druid, and two barbarians, so my first round is usually bless and a cantrip, then spiritual weapon second round. In heavy armour...

D&D 5E How many spells does a wizard *need*

If you're starting at first level you probably don't need to worry overmuch about wizard spells and fighter armour. I only did the numbers in my head, but (and this is only based on the DMG treasure tables) it looks like there's less than a 60% chance of finding a single scroll between 1st and...

    D&D 5E Design Debate: 13th-level PCs vs. 6- to 8-Encounter Adventuring Day

I think the group of PCs wasn't particularly trusting, I just thought that this view of their method of approach was based on the "group up around the paladin" tactic that was mentioned. Sent from my SGH-I747M using Tapatalk

    D&D 5E Design Debate: 13th-level PCs vs. 6- to 8-Encounter Adventuring Day

Yes, I think the guidelines on Adjusted XP Per Day should be followed in this experiment. 8 Deadly encounters is not what the rules call for; the number of encounters has to be mitigated by the difficulty of encounters.

    D&D 5E 6-8 encounters/day - how common is this?

My question, "what are you going to do about it" was honestly meant. What are you doing to sort this out? Tweeting D&D designers might be a good start, but not with simple complaints. I'm thinking something along the lines of "I've noticed X issue, would you consider doing Y?" which could be as...

    D&D 5E Design Debate: 13th-level PCs vs. 6- to 8-Encounter Adventuring Day

I think there are five PCs? Which would mean it's more like 25%. But combined with the Slaads that's over half the daily budget. Of course it also depends on how you're calculating adjusted XP. When combining low and high CR groups I calculate each group separately and then add them together...

I understand your complaint. What are you going to do about it?

D&D 5E Just checking: Hordebreaker Ranger

Huh, yep. Jeremy Crawford also says that the part of the feat which implies that the crossbow must already be loaded is, in fact, just flavour text. Fire away then!

    D&D 5E 6-8 encounters/day - how common is this?

Thanks for clarifying that, I think your "highway" comment confused the issue for some of us. I think all the resting options you've outlined sound great, and I fully agree that you should be able to change way rests work mechanically to suit the current narrative of your game, rather than...

    D&D 5E 6-8 encounters/day - how common is this?

You could switch "DMs" for "players" and this would be equally valid. If the players are telling the DM that it's "my way or the highway" then the game isn't going to work either. If it's a no go for the DM it's a no go for the players. These are good points, though I know that all these...

    D&D 5E Bard/Cleric Build Question/Opinion

I'm not really the right kind of player to give you advice on optimization, but I have read that advantage tends to give you a big boost (like nearing +5) in the midrange numbers which is, I think, right where most of your concentration checks are going to be. Proficiency with Con saves will...

D&D 5E Test of High Level 5E: Design 4 or 5 lvl 13 PCs for 6 to 8 encounter adventuring day

I think this is a very good point, and consensus was probably unattainable from the beginning, simply because of widely varying play styles. I did enjoy looking over your characters to see what was going on there, and what choices you'd made. Did you ever post a wizard spell list? It would be...

D&D 5E Just checking: Hordebreaker Ranger

You have to use the Attack action to get the bonus action so I'd say that, if the attack was made with the hand crossbow, it's not going to be loaded.

    D&D 5E 6-8 encounters/day - how common is this?

Oh, those glorious old under-30-pages monochrome cover books! To be fair the adventures in them could range from great to terrible, but they satisfy my nostalgia. I think they were officially called "Adventure Modules" but to differentiate them from what other kind of module I don't know. Just...

    D&D 5E 6-8 encounters/day - how common is this?

I guess I'm having trouble seeing what you hope to accomplish. The rules are written already (mine are on paper though) and from what I've heard about 13th Age those rules might be a better fit for people who are frustrated by the way the 6-8 adventuring day interacts with rests. If you're just...

Lore bards, too darn curious for anybody's good.

    D&D 5E 6-8 encounters/day - how common is this?

Other than the assertion that less encounters automatically means the encounters are more meaningful, and the implication that a "6-8 day" means every day of every week has to be filled with combat, this is pretty reasonable. The rules in the PHB and DMG come across as pretty inflexible. The...
