A Paladin Shows Mercy to a Priestess of Orcus?

Michael, I disagree with some of your points, and in the interest of not hijacking the thread further perhaps we should discuss this via e-mail?

A Paladin Shows Mercy to a Priestess of Orcus?

Plane Sailing, Sorry but I honestly don't see it as an apology. Over 5000 posts, skims over a thread at 3 in the morning, then makes a lengthy post with rude/snide comments directed at me. Strikes me more a lame excuse. Question for you; I reported his post about 12 hours ago, no response from...

A Paladin Shows Mercy to a Priestess of Orcus?

I would just like to mention that my 14 year old daughter found this highly amusing. (she kept giggling something about literature) To use your own phrase; Michael, you are so wrong on so many levels it isn't funny.

A Paladin Shows Mercy to a Priestess of Orcus?

Michael, Are you saying I am totally wrong, and deserve automatons for players for this? I confess to being totally, and completely baffled by your response. Ravlek

Does/would anyone care for me to elaborate on post#14?

A Paladin Shows Mercy to a Priestess of Orcus?

From post #13 (from Starman to me) I would like to take this chance to apologize to Starman for not expressing my appreciation for his post earlier. Starman, A thousand pardons. :o Ravlek

Now if Shark will fill us in on the juicy details... <Ravlek passes around the milk and cookies in anticipation> Legal Disclaimer: No chocolate chips were actually harmed during the posting of this post.

A Paladin Shows Mercy to a Priestess of Orcus?

Lord Pendragon; Well stated. Unfortunately simple agreement doesn't make for an interesting discussion, so... :) If we alter your example slightly; Paladin of St.Mercy: "Now, foul priest of bane, prepare to..." Cleric: "Mercy!" You can make a good case for requiring the paladin to grant...

A Paladin Shows Mercy to a Priestess of Orcus?

From one of my earlier posts in the thread: From another of my posts (after the previous one): If she helps the party on an adventure, she is an associate, not necessarily a trustworthy one. We still don't know yet. "Drusilla seemed quite sincere." If true, she is an associate. If it was a...

A Paladin Shows Mercy to a Priestess of Orcus?

What you or I call it is irrelevant. The DM running the campaign makes that ruling, based on his/her campaign. If the DM rules that's how the 'law' views it, then that is how they view it. It will vary, two sides to the coin. As I stated earlier, I can see it going both ways. Once again from...

A Paladin Shows Mercy to a Priestess of Orcus?

I just skimmed over the PHB entry for paladins, didn't see anything relative to giving them the right to grant mercy. Possibly I missed it. No clue regards DotF. A case of YDMMV.

A Paladin Shows Mercy to a Priestess of Orcus?

A paladin who gives shelter/harbors a known 'felon' isn't acting honorably. There is always two sides to every coin. :)

A Paladin Shows Mercy to a Priestess of Orcus?

Sorry for the confusion. Proper=Legitimate(in accordance with the code). This could be the local/national government, or religous authorities. Yet another interesting ramification. With regards to a high level paladin, certainly in my campaigns. Of course others may be different.

A Paladin Shows Mercy to a Priestess of Orcus?

The paladin's code from the SRD; Code of Conduct: A paladin must be of lawful good alignment and loses all class abilities if she ever willingly commits an evil act. Additionally, a paladin’s code requires that she respect legitimate authority, act with honor (not lying, not cheating, not using...

A Paladin Shows Mercy to a Priestess of Orcus?

I think you're quoting out of context, to an extent(my fault). I can see both of my points as being equally valid, and I honestly am not sure how I would rule on that (as a DM). Which is why I found it interesting. Your response is certainly a good way to look at it. Need to think on this one...

A Paladin Shows Mercy to a Priestess of Orcus?

Again from the SRD: "Associates: While she may adventure with characters of any good or neutral alignment, a paladin will never knowingly associate with evil characters,..." The RAW definition would apply if she was taken on an adventure, IMO. Excellent point on slavery. Complete agreement on...

A Paladin Shows Mercy to a Priestess of Orcus?

Now that is an interesting viewpoint. Going to play devil's advocate here. If the proper authorities demand, lawfully, that the priestess be turned over, and the paladin refuses, then she is violating the code. On the gripping hand, if she does turn her over, she is violating the code...

A Paladin Shows Mercy to a Priestess of Orcus?

I am actually hoping something like this happens in my latest campaign. I'm using Planescape as the setting and one player is running a paladin. Sons of Mercy faction anyone? :) Edit: Good chance to thank all the great people at planewalker.com for their work! :D

A Paladin Shows Mercy to a Priestess of Orcus?

I thought I made that point earlier. From post #8 (my fourth post in the thread) "If the priestess changes alignment, there is no problem. If the player of the paladin RP's trying to redeem the priestess, I wouldn't worry about the RAW."
