price of H1 Keep on the Shadowfell

Unfortunately modules in 1987 cost around $8. That's $14.94 adjusted at your conversion rate. Making this product come in at a 67% premium over that era. I'm sorry. I go out of my way to find reasons to buy things at my FLGS store. For Christmas I tend to hand out gift cards from said...

    Recommendations for remote gaming tools

Yeah, I'm looking at Skype w/ video. Unfortunately Microsoft seems to have ditched netmeeting for Vista 64 and Windows Meeting space isn't available on XP. (Insert comment about MS ditching a perfectly valid tool that was free for it's users in favor of the pay-to-use Windows Live). Anyone...

    Recommendations for remote gaming tools

Hey all, I've taken a 2 year job far away from my ten year gaming group and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for remote gaming tools - beyond those of the ole' IRC/webcam utilities. Going completely online isn't an option - the guy whose house we game at is a Luddites who...

    D&D 3E/3.5 Mearls' 3e Drider: A Hint at 4e Status Effects?

I like it in general but I've done something similar for general poisons in my game, where the points lost are per round instead of singular chunks. I just tossed the increment into the end-of-round actions. The specifics of this example seem a bit over-worked though.

    D&D 4E Will you buy 4e?

Probably not going to purchase it. The weakness of the Eberron releases and the fact that I am moving away from my gaming group pretty much cements it for me. WotC products just don't seem to be worth the effort or the money anymore. I might take a look at 6th edition when it comes out though...

    OotS 449

I'm hanging my hat on the "...the reason we stationed only Paladins of the ...." et al speech. And there's a line of paladins whose heads you can't see. :)

    OotS 449

He wasn't a paladin. "Only the honor of a paladin" et. al. I consider this scene to be an exposition scene explained to the PCs after the fact, but for dramatic pacing we get to watch it as it happens. Unless of course the GM is actually making the die rolls for the combat between the two...

    OotS 449

Actually... if I read that right, it may be "Must die in throne room of Azure City." Rich got the feel of "paladiness" perfect. Devotion to a righteous cause so strong that even death can not sever it. And again... with stick figures. Mechanics, schematics... this is a good story.

    Humor - OotS #443

I doubt it. It was a very small planet after all. :)

    Humor - OotS #443

He was saving it for a real emergency. <coughbootycallcough> He may have an 18 Int but he is STILL a fighter with the priorities thereof. :) Of course, I think that Rich nailed it again. We've all been there as players - something went wrong and the character is gonna die, so what do we do...

    Oots 439

I think it would have to be the full strip to really get the impact. This one was brilliant. Rich has managed to convey that battlefield feeling of adrenalin and anger, of having to grab the inner beast in a no-time-for-thought-pure-animal-instinct*, no second chance, no save spot,no best...

Alternate History: Magic The Gathering Never Exists. What Changes for D&D?

I have to agree. It was stated earlier that without WotC Enworld would not exist. That's true but for a different reason than stated - I still remember when TSR was semi-jokingly referred to as They Sue Regularly (aka T$R). This newfangled internet thing was perceived as a major threat to...

[EDITION WARZ] Selling Out D&D's Soul?

Heh. Just this past week I had a player say that he wasn't going to take a feat out of a supplement because he didn't want me to use the same feat against the party. :)

    Where are hte polearms?

This I am in agreement. Fast and cheap fortifications that don't pin the defending army in place I can see. I guess my problem with static defenses is that, in my opinion, they leave the initiative to the attacker. Here are my assumptions: 1) Defender has a strong defensive position, but...

    Where are hte polearms?

Okay... let me preface my section with "All other things being equal..." 25,000 men is gonna mop the floor with 15,000 men backed with 10 mages who have fireball. I guess my point is that fireball in of itself is not that significant in massed battles. I would guess that it's main effect...

    Where are hte polearms?

My $0.02 as for magic warfare... I can see pretty much all the points presented here but would have to say that in the end it all comes back to logistics. :) If you have an army of 25,000 and you are facing an equivalent army of 15,000 and 10 mages with fireballs... you are still probably...

Spiked Chains: Pure cheese or sometimes OK?

<cough>Halfling skip-rock, lute-bayonet, tumbling crossbow bolt</cough> :) After having abused my characters with a spiked chain by a few NPCs, one of the players picked it up for his fighter. It's over-effective in his hands, even with some minor house rules we put in. It's a two-handed...
