So you're done with D&D but still want to play D&Dish fantasy...

Meaning no disrespect, but all I've heard of this game (read the rules back in the 90's is all I know, really) is that it is convoluted and perhaps even more un-unified in dice mechanics than AD&D - and RIFTS should be even "worse". So I'm genuinely curious as to the truth to this and how it plays.

Other D&D Variant What's going on with the DC20 RPG?

From what I've heard, it's a bloated mess. Besides the 29 conditions, apparently there's also variations of damage resistance that combine with armor except when you roll high and deal more damage unless you apply immunity, and remember to take into account the 13 or so weapon properties that...

RPG CROWDFUNDING NEWS – Tales of the Valiant, Serenissima Obscura, and more

I found it pretty intuitive. And I adore exploding dice, putting excitement into every roll! My main concern is rolling 4 times to conclude an attack

Oath Hammer - new d6 dice pool fantasy rpg

Currently on Kickstarter It ticks a lot of boxes for me. I'm a bit concerned about all the rolls to determine combat. I've never played a dice pool system before. Does anyone have any experience with Streets of Peril, the creators' first rpg, using the same system? And/or with other dice pool...

This system looks very deadly? Does this affect the type of adventures to be had?

ZWEIHÄNDER Reforged: Talking With Daniel D. Fox (World of Game Design)

how about taling the light, medium, and heavy weapon categories from Barbarians of Lemuria? BoL also only uses d6 fo damge. Light weapons is effectively disadvantage on the d6 damage die, medium is normal, and heavy is advantage. Combined with Zweihänder's exploding damage it might just make two...

D&D 5E (2014) To Be or Not to Be: Legendary

I mean, since attackers get advantage as well, why does it need to be 3/day? In total, there's no benefit. (that the barbarian's ability is the same doesn't make it better...) I despise feats/abilities whose "reward" is to do something that penalizes you just as much. "buy this feat to be able...

D&D 5E (2014) To Be or Not to Be: Legendary

I too like it a lot! 👍 A couple of observations/questions: Why is frightful presence after the dragon's turn and not when spotted? I get why - the terror of seeing the dragon rampage. But it also means city guards are unaffected (by the rule as written) when first seing a gigantic dragon...

D&D 5E (2014) To Be or Not to Be: Legendary

@dave2008, didn't you used to have a variant of LR, where the monster takes damage when it negates a condition? Something like CR+2 hp damage, 3/long rest, the monster ends a condition affecting it? Or it makes the save automatically, but takes that damage, making it a cost/benefit analysis for...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 - Do magic weapons bypass resistance now?

You could have DR a la 3.X, and then have the DR reduced by each plus and/or material. So DR15/+3, each plus reduces DR by 5. Or 20/blunt. And something like it for Holy, Adamantine etc. weapons. Something to work on. A monster's "+ requirement" can never be more than half prof. bonus.
