D&D General DMs: Do you buy and/or run official adventures?

I DM and I strip official modules for parts like they were stolen cars. In my current 5e campaign, I've found Candlekeep Mysteries, Tales From the Yawning Portal, and Tomb of Annihilation useful.

Tell Me About Your Current or Most Recent Character

My one current PC is Armand Armando Amontillado de Casa del Toro é Fortunado. Armand Armando for short. He's a 5e Diviner Wizard gnome. He is, in fact, short. Barely 3ft. What he lacks in height, he makes up for in his parents money. He's an academic dilettante who started adventuring to pay...

D&D General Which Gods/Pantheons do you use in your D&D setting?

We like to use homebrew settings & homebrew pantheons. This is our current crop of gods ageless non-deific beings who built the world, which is more of a giant construct floating in the Void. The Seven Immortals - they made the Arc for the salvation of all peoples. Boaz the Builder...

Do you love Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension?

So good Wes Anderson paid tribute to it at the end of The Life Aquatic.

Do you love Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension?

If you don’t love Buckaroo Banzai you’re sealed with a curse as sharp as a knife. Doomed is your soul and damned is your life. (it’s okay if you don’t love this film, monkey boy)

    Cocktails

I miss Sage. We used an empty bottle as a flower vase for years and to replace the gin in a Negroni. Could never figure out what to do with Root, though, drink-wise. I remember when Art in the Age opened in Old City and people were like "what is this?". Or at least I was.

Thanks for reminding me of Jollibee. They have a location in Philly now. Been meaning to try it out.

What is the single best science fiction or fantasy franchise?

I could put some thought into answering this. Or listen to every fiber of my being which are currently reverberating with the words “Star Trek”.

What is the best chain fast food restaurant?

There can be only one. White Castle.

    Best comic storyline

Claremont’s X-Men run. Grant Morrison’s run on Doom Patrol. ”The Doll’s House” and “Season of Mists” from Gaiman’s Sandman. The first dozen or so issues of Stray Bullets. Most of Milligan’s Shade the Changing Man. All of Ellis’s Transmetropolitan. Can you tell when I was really into comics? 😀

What are you reading in 2023?

I’m on a “reading 21st century science fiction I should have read by now” kick. Finished Peter Watts‘s Blightsight and Echopraxia. Currently finishing Adrian Tchaikovsky’s Children of Ruin (the one about octopuses).

D&D General When the fiction doesn't match the mechanics

Hussar does have the advantage in that he’s accurately describing how fiction works.

D&D General When the fiction doesn't match the mechanics

Every version of D&D models protagonists. That’s what hit points and the leveling system do.
