D&D General Is D&D Beyond Exclusivity Bad for D&D?

Uhm because one is a suite of integrated, automated tools and the other is a single tool?

D&D General Is D&D Beyond Exclusivity Bad for D&D?

So Im curious... are you aware of any ttrpg publishers that offer a pdf and a suite of tools like DDB? Not a gotcha just genuinely curious, because I can't think of a single one.

D&D General Is D&D Beyond Exclusivity Bad for D&D?

So you want a pdf or nothing...fair, I guess I value in the moment usability much higher than archival format... especially if workarounds exist for archiving the data. Truth be told I have a ton of Dragon and Dungeon magazine pdf's from the 4e era as a DDI subscriber and I dont really...

D&D General Is D&D Beyond Exclusivity Bad for D&D?

Youre assuming they offer a pdf format... that isnt always the case. Case in point... sometimes its access to their discord and the content are posts there.

D&D General Is D&D Beyond Exclusivity Bad for D&D?

Eh, WotC is a company and they offer a product(DDB)... they, like any other well run business, offer perks to those who choose to patronize their product. I think DDB is a game changing tool that offers immense value (especially in allowing the sharing of sourcebooks) to me and my group...if...

Wizards of the Coast launches official Dungeons & Dragons Actual Play show

I always find this take a little weird...didnt the core of CR play ttrpg's before they ever streamed a single game? So is it the popularity, the money, the production values or something else that now makes them "actors playing people who are playing D&D"? Because honestly I'd take an increase...

D&D 5E (2024) DnD 5e designer [Mike Mearls] explains how INDIE RPGs are taking over

Of course this assumes you have or want a singularly focused style/genre as opposed to something less rigid.

Im trying to understand where you see a difference in "quality" if anything I see a difference in aesthetics because one is a map style representation of an underground space and one is a colored semi-realistic drawing of s building above ground. Its like comparing a full color piece and a...

You know... I want to apologize for dragging this thread into edition war territory...it really was not my intention nor the point of what I was posting. I got a little heated and shouldn't have engaged...but I did, sorry all.

Not twisting...paraphrasing but if you cant provide any real proof to back up your claims...like I said when you first engaged with me then yeah... you should bow out. Laugh emojis only go so far without substance... Not even worth it...

You know this how exactly? Oh ok you're defining success as sold less than the preceding edition...But did sell something...Well you win then... I guess.

You're not...unless the definition of objectively has changed Ben Riggs cited that the 4e phb sold "far" less over its lifetime than the 3e phb did...thats not a failure based on expectations thats a failure based on measurements of adoption.

Im not doing this...the game failed, unless you were part of WotC at that time all you're doing is speculating. You dont actually know anything and this isnt a thread about 4e.

I dont think this...especially the middle paragraph...can be proven true. But im not trying to debate 4e's what if's and maybes... for whatever metrics would have made it successful...it failed.

Look you seem intent on sticking with your incorrect assumptions about the book and seem to truly believe it's bad. You're asking for a recommendation on a book you have stated you own & have read... at this point why would a recomendation change your mind or even get you to consider your...

not well regarded by who? You gave a single video from an OSR channel. I mean repeating something with no evidence doesn't make it any more true than the first time you posted it.

What in the text gave the vibe of it being an utopia? I didn't get that at all form it and many of the adventures in the book have low key dark or horror vibes in them.
