    D&D 4E Shado's 4e Color Landscape Sheets v1.2: UPDATED 6/24

Actually, there are fillable pdfs that CAN be saved with just the reader. I don't know what's the difference in making them, but it clearly depends on the way/tool used to prepare them by the author. The first version of these sheets could, in fact, be saved with all the info filled in.

Metal washers, glue, photopaper and an ink jet printer walk into a bar...

They look like a simple screenshot of the game's pdf. (on the origin of which we will not speculate :) ) ...also, some "massaging" with a graphics software is apparent (to place the creature names, and so on)

Best Online Tools (like maptools) for Gaming?

Check the forums on maptool's website: there's tons of stuff there, from macros to tips not documented. Also, be sure to use the latest beta of the 1.3 branch, because it has much more stuff goin on.

    Custom Character Sheets?

InDesign is a layout program (the same "genre" as Scribus), and it is what's used to layout most of the gaming books you find around (don't know about DnD, but probably): very costly, but top notch. @Mezzer: actually, Illustrator is vector, just like Inkscape and CorelDRAW :) I would find it...

    Custom Character Sheets?

Inkscape is much easier to work with, than scribus in my experience. But it is suitable mostly for single pages: Scribus on the other hand is a layout/dtp program used to typeset books.

    DDI Progress

They're developing the thing in-house? Heavens... like WotC was a software company, let alone a videogame developing software company... But let's say they hired some competent programmers, modelers and so on. But there are FREE engines, for heaven's sake. How much graphic effects does a...

We need a unified optional game system or this hobby's gonna die

Yeah, but if you don't play DnD you are not likely to know about ENWorld, at all. And if you know it you won't bother subscribing, or even reading this forum. I know: it was my situation until 2 months ago. And I've played rpgs for 20 years now. (my join date is from 2007 because I voted for...

Something I've Never Seen in an RPG System

Also, Fate v3/Spirit of the Century. There is a dice roll, but it's tailored so that wild chance matters less than the base skill, AND the Aspect mechanic allows you to bring to the challenge any relevant part of your character background (like, say, invoking "Fiercely Loyal" to get a +2...

    Insignificant Gods

And, let's not forget Anoia, goddess of things that get stuck in drawers. (also from discworld)

Best PDF making tool. (Campaign Handouts)

If you need more fine control and graphics tools, you can use Inkscape http://www.inkscape.org Which is a free and multiplatform vector graphics tool not unlike CorelDraw or Illustrator. It can write in pdf directly (but you're often better off creating a png and converting that, for size...

    Is alignment really that rigid?

In 4E alignment is practically irrelevant, and most people/creatures are unaligned anyway, so... just don't sweat over it.

Cleric and Paladin - What's the Difference?

Well, if you look at the religions in dnd in a way that is vaguely resembling the real world catholic orders (and the cleric and paladin share an origin in those cultural whereabouts), it's relatively simple: Cleric: he's a real priest. He takes all the vows, is fully ordained, is a part of the...

"Points of Light" setting - will there ever be a book?

As said over and over "Point of light" is not a setting, but a design style: a setting that is not completely defined, with large areas left to define and explore by the players. If you mean the "implied setting" of 4E, which is one of the possible PoL settings, I dunno, I don't think wotc...

What direction will D&D head in?

Well, apart for the "strong player empowerment", you've just described 4E and the reaction of a lot of people. 4E has been strongly influenced by The Forge and the new wave of designers. Heinsoo plays Agon with the author (and IMO it shows in small bits of the rules). Mearls loves The Shadow...
