D&D was very much based on the fantasy that its creators liked, with reluctant recognition of the popularity of Lord of the Rings. So, for example, there are no Narnian-style talking animals. Witches are a much more common trope than druids, but there are druids rather than witches, apparently...

I don't think dungeons have to be simpler, more combat-oriented, or anything else compared to wilderness or city adventures. The main difference seems to be that movement is freer in wilderness, and more still in cities.

How do you pronounce Grognardia?

I think English is the only language that isn't phonetic (because it takes words from lots of languages, with different phonetic systems).
