Your role? Nothing matters but combat.

I'll bite. He didn't insult you. He said your idea was stupid (i.e. a bad idea). The judgment is passed on your idea, not on you personally. And if we aren't allowed to pass judgment on people's ideas then there really isn't much point to a discussion board, now is there? Anyway, this thread...

    Nostalgia Campaigns

If I ever ran 3.5 for the hell of it, it would be in a "ha ha look at the brokenness we can accomplish." Which basically means I get my group to toss together silly broken characters and make them fight. I have a thri-kreen shadow sun ninja who needs to have some fun...

Displacement - a bit wussy eh? Mirror image too...

Well, I was responding to allegations that either meleeists, druids, or clerics dominate high-level play. Such allegations are patently false. Clerics are probably a fairly close number two, but Wizards still win because they have the largest number of "get out of jail free" cards to play.

Displacement - a bit wussy eh? Mirror image too...

I must disagree with the view that the wizard was not the most powerful character at high levels of play in 3.5. A single one is capable of handling an entire party by himself, core. Foresight up so you can never be caught by surprise, thus forcing a normal initiative check. Contingency up for...

    D&D 4E 10 Things I Like in 4e

I'd argue that the best thing is left out of your list - Game balance around the encounter as the primary metric, as opposed to the day. NinjEdit: that said, I do like your list very much. It neatly encapsulates a lot of my favorite things about 4E.

I was unconsious 20 minutes ago, but I'm ok now..

Exactly. When I play D&D, I don't want to be Joe Schmoe, who needs a couple of day's good lie-down to recover from a nasty crack to the back of the head. I want to be John McClane and kick asses even after fighting a kung fu master in an elevator shaft. I want to be Jack Bauer and stride out of...

    D&D 4E 4e - Is it really D&D Yet?

The revamp was necessary for players like myself. While I tie for four of Robin's player types, I'd consider my primary one to be Tactician. I love mechanical optimization of a given roleplay concept. However, both high levels and low levels of 3.5 have the same problem - extreme swinginess. 3E...

Pathfinder 1E PPP (Post Pathfinder Poll)

QFTJATAW. The move to a per-encounter system in ToB led me to include ToB in my "core only" games. It was that much of an improvement over what came before. And now you tell me we have an entire system based and balanced around this? Where do I sign over my soul, again?

    Warlocks not warlockey anymore

I look forward greatly to playing a Warlock - for the first time I will be playing a character of alignment Chaotic with flavor and mechanics that support what I have in mind. ...Who has read Lords and Ladies? :D

    R. Thompson : D&D still a sim/gamist RPG

smathis's many, many smart words have helped me realize myself why I like 4E so very, very much. I took that quiz that everyone talks about and it came up with me equal parts Tactician, Power Gamer, Method Actor, and Storyteller. I love games and game design. I'm a fan of chess and Go - games...

D&D 4E What will be your first 4E character?

Eladrin fey-pact warlock. Totally going to roleplay the Lords and Ladies-style of elf - the scary ones that would smash the world to see if it made a pretty noise. I am excited.
