Pathfinder 2E Thoughts on attack bonuses for high ground?

Certain high ground is basically cover.

    PaizoCon 2025 Keynote Recap

Sometimes you have a Character Guide for Lost Omens (at least for Tian Xia) that is basically the mechanical side of things, focused on classes. Some books are also quite mixed; Dark Archives is full of mechanics and character options but also a bunch of mini-adventures, all built around a...

D&D (2024) What Should a Psion Be Able To Do?

Gotcha, thanks. That certainly fits into 5E's writing style. I think it's fair to say that 5E is not going to introduce a greater variety of supernatural concepts - or even be more specific about what exists - as that is not 5E's design philosophy. However, those distinctions do exist outside...

D&D (2024) What Should a Psion Be Able To Do?

Does 5E have a glossary or keyword entry you can quote? Prior editions had specifically Supernatural abilities.

D&D (2024) What Should a Psion Be Able To Do?

You're using a colloquial definition, but other usage narrows magic down as a subset of the supernatural. Supernatural is the broader term, even though they are often used interchangably.

D&D (2024) What Should a Psion Be Able To Do?

Depends on the culture. The world is very, very big, and humanity has come up with pretty much any variation you could hope to imagine. Journey to the West alone is a bunch of different belief systems directly interacting and sometimes punching each other.

D&D (2024) What Should a Psion Be Able To Do?

It's more the other way around. Everything was just a normal part of the world until we started dividing it up and figuring out some of it was wrong. Aspirin is a Relieve Pain potion etc.

D&D (2024) What Should a Psion Be Able To Do?

We're talking about psionics in D&D, not the specific "psychic" culture of the Western world which was itself also inspired by non-Western sources. Psionics is a mish-mash of borrowed ideas that includes things from religions, philosophies, occult practices, and scammy magicians from around...

D&D (2024) What Should a Psion Be Able To Do?

:/ The world is a lot bigger than Europe.

D&D (2024) What Should a Psion Be Able To Do?

Psionics is based in supernatural beliefs that have been popular for thousands of years and indeed are now more believed in than wizardy stuff.

Mystique can be individual. Soldiers don't cause assassins to lose their mystique just because they both use guns.

D&D (2024) What Should a Psion Be Able To Do?

I could go on a big ol' rant on descriptive terms vs. technical accuracy (birds are fish etc.) but at the end of the day this is fiction so there can be magic, schmagic, and magyk and they could do the exact same thing and can be defined as completely different things. None of this has a truth...

D&D (2024) What Should a Psion Be Able To Do?

The entire game is "magic" by that usage. Every class and darned near every monster does impossible things. Dispel Magic should vaporize everything.

D&D (2024) What Should a Psion Be Able To Do?

Kitchen sink fantasy was fairly common on the pulp days. Lots of barbarians and blasters etc. Lots of mutants vs. magic, to boot.

D&D (2024) What Should a Psion Be Able To Do?

Pyrokinesis seems like it would be good for a new "wilder" class that's basically "cursed psionics" a bit like a psi version if Pathfinder's oracles. Also a good place for the abberation-touched flavor.

D&D (2024) Psionics: What Do You Want?

If you want to get picky about it "magic" is basically just "weird nerd stuff" in a setting not matching real world physics. Aspirin and fireballs and telepathy are equally magic. Pain relief, from tree bark!? Absurd!

D&D (2024) Psionics: What Do You Want?

    ...this is fantasy fiction.

D&D (2024) Psionics: What Do You Want?

Should there be? Psionics extends the bleeding edge of the possible, magic does the impossible. A sufficiently high spell should be able to replicate a psionic ability, but a psion can do it all day and with more refined precision.

D&D (2024) What Should a Psion Be Able To Do?

Psychic pyrokinesis is a very popular trope, but I feel it needs to cordoned off a bit to keep its flavor. It's often a very curse-like ability beyond the cantrip level.
