Where’s The Beastmaster Roleplaying Game? Part 1

Wizards and Monks are terrible characters because they don't know about armor? My take is Beastmaster shows that Nudity as Armor can work for males as well as females. 2nd the thought on Krull.

Where’s The Beastmaster Roleplaying Game? Part 1

The risks of critters in melee has already be mentioned but there are a fair number of single target spells that would spell instant doom for a Beastmaster's animal companions. Magic Missile being a classic. "Every missile targeted at ferret #1." Or early on, a Sleep spell could wipe out much...

RPG Evolution: Owlbear and Gnoll Terrain

If one does a bit of exploring on the vendor's Amazon store, you will find that tower for sale. The green blobs are good enough to set the scene. Will you win a place in "The Tremendous Tome of Epic Dungeons Vol II"? Probably not. But you won't spend the entire week setting up a tower...

Play The Twilight Of Your Adventures In Stewpot

Could be a way for a band of adventurers who know that the time for adventuring is getting short to setup a way to provide for kids/the next band of youngsters that might take up the next quest.

Worlds of Design: Breaking the Fantasy Mold

I think the reason early D&D used Euro-centric middle ages for the settings was the early customer base was primarily United States Americans. To US Americans, middle ages Europe IS largely fantasy. It has things like Kings, Queens and the whole royal entourage complete with castles and such...

RPG Evolution: The New Miniature Era

I bought hundreds on the secondary market. Many were 10 cents per so I would order $1 worth. Snagged several of the larger ones like the Bullete or Red T-Rex for less then $5 per. My group at the time also made a couple of group buys of current issue boxes and then did some cross table...

D&D Errata Nerfs Conjuring Spells, Makes Other Changes

Shining in social encounters IS a form of character power. Rolls not required. Seems like that to the social character, combat is pesky. Some players live for combat, others, not so much. And yes, I have played with players who had a talent for their characters getting into situations using...

Greater Than Games Shutters Due to Tariffs

Sadly, this seems a sane response to the current tariff situation. (Queue up the Bugs Bunny skit with Elmer in hunting outfit and Bugs and Daffy doing the "Wabbit Season" "Duck Season" rapid change thing.) Best to limit cash outflow until someone figures out what season it is. I don't see...

D&D Errata Nerfs Conjuring Spells, Makes Other Changes

Or maybe the Sorcerer player isn't that interested in combat. Sounds like she has a very powerful character during social encounters, more so then yours, and enjoys using that power during such encounters. Hopefully, the DM will occasionally let her use her social 'power' to win an encounter...

Worlds of Design: Here Be Monsters

A map should be a play aid, not the end goal. I have done both versions of dungeon exploring. Creating a detailed maps as we go and just going without the players making a map but trusting that the characters were somehow keeping track of where they were/had been/and the way out. I prefer the...

Worlds Largest Dungeon Holds 'Secret Doors' Contest

A member of my then RPG group bought the original WLD when new and we ran a few sessions. But after a bit, most of us wanted something other then combat followed by more combat with a break consisting of combat. I did later buy a copy of World's Largest City. That may finally get some use in...

Compare The Market's Tabletop Gaming Survey

Wonder if Pathfinder and others being missing is due to D&D becoming a generic term for role playing games? I know that several times when I have answered a question about "what are you playing?" with 'Pathfinder', I got the stare of "What??". When I added "Think D&D" the comprehension light...

What Game Publishers Are Saying About The Tariffs

A quote from the Steve Jackson posting on tariffs: "Here are the numbers: A product we might have manufactured in China for $3.00 last year could now cost $4.62 before we even ship it across the ocean. Add freight, warehousing, fulfillment, and distribution margins, and that once-$25 game...

RPG Print News – Necrotic Gnome, Loke Battle Maps, and More

I have offered to do that but suggested he provide a sacrificial test mini first. I use spray primer but some plastic reacts poorly to spray. Much better to have Orc #1 of 10 wind up perma sticky then the hard to find character mini. And yes, my Giant Battle Maps book is wire spiral bound.

RPG Print News – Necrotic Gnome, Loke Battle Maps, and More

IF this one is like my Giant Book of Battlemaps(the 1st one), the binding is about 3/4" and the maps wind up about 1/4"(or less) apart. For me, less of an immersion break then the player that keeps using the unpainted mini, especially the white ones.

RPG Evolution: Clear Gaming Paper Tiles

Started with battle mats and mega mats from Chessex. Had access to a large format plotter and printed out a 3'x5' square and hex grid that we covered with acrylic plastic. Have and still use the Loke Battlemap books. A ready to go Loke map beats having to hand draw something out on plastic or...

Wizards of the Coast Is Sunsetting Sigil's Active Development

Better for Hasbro to confirm the shutdown now and move on then for the issue to remain in doubt for weeks or months longer. At least now, everyone can make their VTT plans accordingly. As can the remaining Sigil developers.

Project Sigil 90% Of D&D’s Project Sigil Team Laid Off

Some folks have mentioned tariffs but it seems odd to cancel or mostly cancel a project that is tariff free if that project was otherwise doing well. My guess is the cost of continuing development was high enough and the interest so far was low enough that some number crunchers said kill it...

Worlds of Design: Take a Bow

The part about "Easy to miss" when using a pistol in close quarters is true. Many years ago in a city where I lived, 3 Police Officers were dealing with a man armed with some kind of weed cutter while in his living room. For some reason, shooting started. 19 shots were fired at what in D&D...
