There's A New Edition Of The Cypher System Coming

Learn to resist the lure of the shiny! Also, learn to see through the sunk cost fallacy...

There's A New Edition Of The Cypher System Coming

I dunno, calling those supplements "free" seems a little shaky to me. If, for example, you're backing at the $35 PDF level, you only get the adventures. To get the settings as well, you have to go up to the $70 level. And if you're at the lowest pledge level, $19, you get none of it. Having a...

    Dragon Reflections #95

Because the Tolkien Estate made them change some names, and Gary held a grudge forever.

    White Dwarf Reflections #26

At the high school where I work, the student body used to organize "killer games" until a few years ago. Interestingly, they had no idea there was a published version of rules for this, knowledge of how to play had just spread through word of mouth. Nowadays they've mutated it into a more...

    White Dwarf Reflections #25

Seems an odd way to describe a book full of NPC stats, but I guess it was useful to some GMs.

    Starfinder Player Core Review

I would hope that before you make a purchasing decision, you'd do a little more research than just reading a single marketing blurb. It's not like it's especially hard to suss out what Starfinder is like. And if you're not thinking of buying it, why would you care?

    Starfinder Player Core Review

Do you mean the specially powered magic stuff from the GM Core? If so, no, that's not what seems to be going on in Starfinder. 2e looks to have the same system as in 1e, where you have to go shopping for new stuff every couple of levels.

    Starfinder Player Core Review

That sounds like a great solution. Unfortunately the Archive of Nethys linked by Velderan shows they still have huge lists of armor and weapons gated by level and price. This makes me sad. Well, mostly I'm sad that Daggerheart inexplicably chose to copy this system, but I guess that's off topic...

There's A New Edition Of The Cypher System Coming

Speaking as a GM, what made me bounce hard off Cypher was mainly the vague and handwavy monster design. Which I haven't seen any comments about, but it seems a pretty core thing to the game and unlikely to change...

D&D General Cthulhu by Torchlight Brings Mythos To D&D

There's a limited selection of stuff here: https://shop.petersengames.com/ Nothing from the Cthulhu 5e range, though.

Critical Role's The Mighty Nein Reveals First Look, Season 1 to Air on November 19th

That's funny, I have a completely different take on it. IMO the issue was that after the war storyline was wrapped up with the peace conference, that was it. Everything they had been building to was finished. But Matt had started the campaign with the (at least implicit) promise that each...

D&D General Cthulhu by Torchlight Brings Mythos To D&D

Nope. Nothing from that line is on Petersen Games' website or DTRPG. I know you could still get the PDFs a couple of years ago, but now they've been scrubbed from the net.

Critical Role's The Mighty Nein Reveals First Look, Season 1 to Air on November 19th

I agree that the characters are the best. The story of the campaign loses steam about 2/3 of the way through, though. IMO.

D&D General Cthulhu by Torchlight Brings Mythos To D&D

Good for you, but since it's OOP and apparently not coming back, it's not gonna help anyone else.

Where’s David Cronenberg’s Scanners Roleplaying Game? Part One

Kinda weird that they all came out a full decade after the original, too. Anyway, I've seen at least Scanners II. It sucked balls.

D&D General Get A Pet Tiger And Watch It Level Up In Pets & Sidekicks For D&D and A5E

Well, the subsystems for wildshaping and animal companions in the 2014 PHB suck balls. It's some of the worst stuff in that whole book. The designers of Level Up clearly understood that there's a problem here, but instead of replacing it completely, they chose to just tweak it a bit to...
