Do alignments improve the gaming experience?

First and foremost I must apologize for my prior aggressions and lack of calm and collected actions. I've been having a rough week of it and the frustrations I've been feeling have leaked quite heavily into my manner associated with this thread. I've also played D&D 3.5 for a little too long...

Do alignments improve the gaming experience?

First: Apparently you didn't read my post that well because I even stated that these rules can be overlooked in instances of wise or intelligent creatures. Dumb demons kill without regard for survival as they generally don't care as long as they are serving a "higher purpose" usually in the form...

Do alignments improve the gaming experience?

For those who apparently still don't get it, let me quote something from the Player's Handbook Edition 3.5: "The compassion to pursue good, the will to uphold law, and the power to defeat evil-these are the three weapons of the paladin." Compassion to pursue good? Quite honestly it sounds like...

Do alignments improve the gaming experience?

Well, yes and no. It is a tool, but more for advisement rather than enforcement. Chaos generally doesn't adhere to Order, therefore, Chaotically aligned individuals and monsters are less likely if at all likely to follow "laws". Whether these "laws" be mystical, societal, or otherwise is open to...

Do alignments improve the gaming experience?

I have a buddy who plays in a regular game where the DM has let a non-mechanical alignment system be used. Care to guess how the Paladin the party acts? He lies, cheats, and steals more than the Rogue in party does and the Rogue is a catburglar. Why you might be asking? Because he won't be...

Do alignments improve the gaming experience?

Apparently a lot of you people don't play with "Smite" or even "Outsiders" because, beside alignments being a guiding force on what a character will or will not do, Smite Evil does additional damage against "Evil" aligned entities. Also, if the Paladin (who we all know very well is LAWFUL GOOD)...

I have a pal who wants a Construct Animal Companion.

Well, looking into everything, it seems to me that: 1. A Feat would be unnecessary unless the Ranger wanted his Animal Companion to be a little better. 2. To offset the lack of an Int score, the Soulfused template can be used. 3. The Construct would more likely be treated as a higher level...

It's alright, I only mentioned it the once. And it was hidden amongst the wall of text.

And now that you've said it, I want to do the same... Damned Warforged!

Do alignments improve the gaming experience?

Yes. Alignments improve gaming experiences. Otherwise everyone would just play Neutrals or Chaotic Neutrals and the only things that would ever happen is the PCs would lie, cheat, and steal everything. By playing the guy who can't/won't break the rules, you encourage good roleplaying. And even...

I have a pal who wants a Construct Animal Companion.

If you had read the original post, you'd have known I already looked into the Effigy Template and was looking for a better alternative should one exist.

I understand what it does, I'm just wondering since arcane casters require feats to get better familiars like Improved Familiar, would such a feat be necessary for the Ranger.

Thanks. I'm half asleep at the moment so I haven't gotten around to checking the links yet.

Lesser Golems are definitely something I'll look into. Where did the Clockwork stuff come from? Just out of curiosity and for future reference.

This is true, but as a Ranger, his effective Druid level is halved for getting Animal Companions. If we take things as is, it could be until Level 8 or higher before he could even use it.

I have a pal who wants a Construct Animal Companion.

That was one of the ideas, but fell short for these reasons: 1. Warforged aren't made like other Constructs since they require specific equipment and materials. Equipment and materials we don't have access to yet if ever. 2. There isn't a Living Construct Template so again, it is a homebrew. 3...

We only hit up Pathfinder if everything short of Houseruling fails.

I didn't think of Soul Binding. That solves the bulk of the issues with the creature. But, I still need to know if a Feat is in order which sounds to me it is.

I have a pal who wants a Construct Animal Companion.

    1. Dropping Ranger Levels is entirely out of the question. His character is a Warforged Ranger named Ranger. It's kind of his thing. 2. I did look into Complete Warrior but considering they're familiars, I looked for other options before working on that. 3. Half-Golems require Grafts if I...

I have a pal who wants a Construct Animal Companion.

I'll try to keep this short and sweet. I'm playing a D&D 3.5 campaign with a few buddies of mine at college and one of my pals is playing a Ranger. Go figure, he wants a special Animal Companion, more specifically a Construct Companion, but this is of course because his Ranger is a Warforged, a...
