    Mini token stands

@Nytmare: Excellent, thanks muchly! @DanmarLOK: I saw those, but I was worried that they'd easily fall over. How stable are they? @Alisair: I saw those too, that's currently my next best option. The advantage of using the card stands is that I can customise the tokens as I wish :) Some good...

    Mini token stands

Hello, I use tokens for battlemap combat (as opposed to miniatures). I'm currently looking in to using something similar for conditions (dazed, stunned, etc.) and I'm trying to find a good way of doing it. I'm very keen on using something like the plastic bases in the fiery dragon battlebox...

WotC to Revise D&D 4th Edition GSL and SRD

I remember reading a blog post by (I think) Monte Cook. In it, he was lamenting the fact that so few people had taken the opportunity provided by the OGL to publish (for a dollar or two) the material they create for their own home games. Those adventures and dungeons, monsters, quests and NPCs...

Seal of Binding+Divine Regeneration is NOT an automatic win

Very good point. But conversely, a solo has far more hit points to burn than a PC, so each PC is taken down in fewer rounds than a solo would be. Also, is there any reason why it has to be a solo, rather than a couple of elites or 5 normals? I don't see minions working well with this spell ;)...

Seal of Binding+Divine Regeneration is NOT an automatic win

I've always had a simple policy to alleviate such problems: "Whatever the players can do, the monsters can do as well (and vice-versa)" If my players keep using an "unstoppable" combo, they can be pretty sure the monsters will be using that same combo next session (I give them to next session...

    New stealth stuff from WotC

hmmm Inside combat, isn't stealth just a means for the ranged rogue to gain CA? Melee rogues have flanking, but (it seems) struggle to gain stealth. Ranged rogues have stealth, but can't get flanking <shrug> seems fair to me. Under this, rogues should be able to get stealth almost every round

Lay on Hands - Is it so Handy?

I don't know. I've never misinterpreted the lay-on-hands rule, so it seems clear to me that what one person thinks is obvious is problematic for other players. But there are two competing issues here: 1) Misinterpretation. The rules say too much. You have to read through verbose phrasing to...

Lay on Hands - Is it so Handy?

And then you have to deal with the equal number of confused newbie Paladins saying "But I USED a healing surge. Using a healing surge gives me hit points so I heal the target AND myself." Some concepts are hard to express unambiguously. It becomes even harder if you want to cover every possible...

Stealth - the low down UPDATED!

uh, and what about the fact that "In combat, creatures are assumed to be paying attention in all directions"? (P188) The rogue somehow stealthily sneaks across the well lit room while in direct line of sight to the orcs and carefully takes cover behind some boxes....and nobody notices? Maybe if...

Help reign in a player who refuses to play his role

First off, I'd ask him what aspect of his character concept makes him a paladin, since there's nothing paladin-y about the way he is acting. Quoting from the description of Paladin in the PHB: "To you is given the responsibility to unflinchingly stand before an enemy's charge, smiting them with...

Stealth - the low down UPDATED!

Sorry, I didn't make some of my points clear enough. I agree on both points... I'm not sure about what you're saying about teleportation. By "not looking at" do you mean "don't have full line of sight to"? Obviously full LOS would negate stealth. And I can understand how teleporting somewhere...

Stealth - the low down UPDATED!

Ahhhh. After several games, various debates and numerous forums, I think I finally might be beginning to understand how I can properly implement stealth :D Assuming that stealth does not upgrade anything, my understanding would be that making a successful stealth check as part of an action...

    4e D&D GSL Live

heh ;) But surely you could produce a product that conforms to the GSL and release your contributions in that document as public domain? If I create a Fightar then it's a class not defined by Wizards (allowing me to define it) and if the flavour text, powers, etc. are all original, then it's...

    4e D&D GSL Live

Just a thought.... But is there anything to stop someone from developing 4e material under the GSL and then releasing *their* IP to the public domain? Seems like an obvious loophole is for someone/some group of people to develop a perfectly legitimate and compatible Wizarde, Kleric, Fightar...

    Coupe de Grace: auto hit?

Your theory is that (being helpless) you cannot resist a mind affecting power (will defence), or dodge an incoming fireball (reflex defence). By that same logic, you cannot defend against an arrow being fired at you, or a sword being swung at you. If that's true, why does the helpless...

add 1/2 level to ability checks? What? Why?

I would have said that the much smarter wizard determines the optimum place to grip the portcullis, the best grip to use, the angle to pull at, and so on. Maybe he's able to find some kind of makeshift crowbar. Certainly he might realise he can push the bottom of the portcullis up with his foot...

Flat Healing Without Using a Surge--Infinite Daily HP?

I think "credible threat" is even mechanically definable under the rules. Clearly, if they're a credible threat, you could make an encounter out of them. The DMG suggests that using monsters 2 or 3 levels lower than the level of the players would not be a threat; regardless of how many such...

Sehanine's Reversal, Death and Dying, and NPCs

Surely the "dying" condition ends as soon as you have > 0 hit points, regardless of whether you make the save or not. So, I'd rule yes, you transfer the condition. Then, as they have more than 0 hit points, the condition ends.

    OK. Absolutely everything is underpowered...

I believe there's some saying that goes: "If everyone is complaining about one class being over/under powered, it's probably true. If everyone is complaining about every class being over/under powered, it's probably perfectly balanced". Balance seems to have been the focus on 4e and from what...
