    Name that Movie

Pretty much as soon as I saw all the bodies, and yes, the doll in the swing, yep. This is the scene that burned itself into my brain as a kid, and pretty much set the standard for "things that will creep me out as an adult."

    Name that Movie

. . . I have no idea, but the animators were clearly on drugs. Heavy, heavy drugs. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hugo_the_Hippo sounds similar, in that the hippos all get slaughtered. But there seems to be a dearth of spaceships in this one. . . .

    Name that Movie

ROTFL. That would totally do it. I must have caught that particular episode in re-runs, because I was only born in '74. . . a year after the series started. Also, oh god, the 70s-style sound cues!

*watching* This is TOTALLY IT! Thank you so much! I was going nuts. :D (Either you have recently watched a boxed set/Netflix binge, or you really know your pop culture!) Anyone else have nagging recollections you'd like to have id'd forensically?

    Name that Movie

I honestly don't remember. I was about 7 or 8, and I believe it was on during daylightish hours, else my dad would have been watching with us. Also, since I was 7 or 8, and quite easily scared, I wouldn't have been allowed to watch Twilight Zone. (I'm not sure I've ever actually watched an...

    Name that Movie

Well, it wasn't post-apocalyptic. It was only *one* town that had been subjected to The Sound. But that's an option, if I can figure out the keyword that will unlock IMDB's troves. . . .

    Name that Movie

Well, I tried this question out on the DragonCon SciFi Classics Track Facebook page, and got no results. I tried my best Google-fu on it, too. I might as well try it on the collective knowledge, wit, and wisdom of EN World's off-topic folks. (That's you. Yes, you, at the back, looking around.)...

    OotS 996

Hey, new comic up. Dun dun DUN. . . . Posthumously could mean in evil undead, redeemed undead, in a very small vial of dust, or in resurrected state, yep. All four possibilities remain in play at this time, though his agency in the destruction would be pretty iffy in the vial of dust state...

    OotS 996

Yep, we're largely working on different readings here. In your reading, Belkar dies, Durkon dies, and the Order goes forward with Haley, Roy, and Elan the Intermittently Competent to face the lich and his increasingly powerful and ruthless goblin priest sidekick. No characters have been lined up...

    OotS 996

Apparently we're not, because all the extended scenes about Durkon's childhood, all the time we're spending inside his head (which has never been done in the comic until this point), all the character development that's being done, would be entirely pointless if Durkon can't be in some way...

Fantasy Book Series: Edda-Earth (Or: the fun of self-publishing and self-promoting)

Also, they kind of hid where the excerpt from Book III that I gave them was located. Here it is! http://media.wizards.com/2015/downloads/dnd/TheGoddessEmbraced_excerpt.pdf

    OotS 996

Yes and no. I hesitate, because the whole point of this arc is that resurrection spells in this setting are not exactly a dime a dozen. At the present, the party has no compelling reason to resurrect Belkar, and death for him would therefore be pretty final. I don't see him being allowed out of...

Fantasy Book Series: Edda-Earth (Or: the fun of self-publishing and self-promoting)

Thank you! I managed to make myself listen to the whole thing to the end (listening to your own voice tends to be a cringeworthy experience, doesn't it?) and in the main, I'm satisfied with it. Would have preferred to stutter less, but that's my mind going faster than my mouth can keep up. *grumble*

    OotS 996

While Belkar's coming up on his appointment with prophecy, it'd be fairly cheap to off him exactly at the moment he's showing the most character growth, so I'm thinking we'll see a rulesy sort of save, in that he lands *hard* and rapidly takes potions before rage ends, yes. Or at least, that's...

Fantasy Book Series: Edda-Earth (Or: the fun of self-publishing and self-promoting)

I spent about three weeks bursting to tell people this, and now that it's finally live, I can disclose this to more than just my forum and Facebook. :) I was interviewed for the Dungeons and Dragons Podcast back on 7/28. They just made the podcast live yesterday, 8/7...

[August 2015] What Are You Reading?

A friend had recommended Fire in the East by Harry Sidebottom. Since my friend is studying Roman history for his MA in that time period, I found a used copy on Amazon for cheap, and settled into it, pretty much sight unseen. It's set in the 200s AD. The main character is the son of an Angle...

    OotS 994

He'd do better if he could use a Scent check and it was a horde of ninja sushi chefs. "Hmm. I detect wasabi and a hint of yellowfin." *Blind attack! Critical hit!*

    OotS 994

So now we wait to see if this will have any call-backs to: "Wait! I think I just failed a Spot check!" or if Belkar will be permitted some competence now that he's actively playing. . . .

Dungeons and Dragons Movie Rights go to trial

I always thought that Krull was the first D&D movie, but apparently that's been debunked. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0085811/trivia?ref_=tt_trv_trv Proof that even with a large number of Royal Shakespeare company members and a very young Liam Neeson in the cast, you can have a film that...

Ash vs The Evil Dead (Official Trailer)

When this one was linked to me a few weeks back, my husband sat looking over my shoulder, and there may have been chortles of glee coming from his direction. He rates Army of Darkness as his favorite film. (I don't ask why. Some things I was not meant to know.) I'll admit to chuckling loudly...
