D&D General D&D Archetypes that spread out to other settings and media

I swear there was an old dragon magazine which went into the dragonlance gods which called out paladine = Bahamut and Takhisis = Tiamat. I prefer them being separate deities but there are obvious similarities.

What Geek Media Do You Refuse To Partake In?

Maybe, I haven't read the books, I just know that the portrayal was enough to raise the hackles of the author's estate.

What Geek Media Do You Refuse To Partake In?

I remember reading something about that, apparently there was a bit of an issue with Henry Cavill's version of Holmes laughingin the Enola Holmes movie, because it wasn't how Holmes was portrayed in the early stories.

    Spoilers Falllout season 2 discussion

House did mention digitising his mind due to the danger of wanderers (or something to that effect). I assume that meant the courier from fallout NV.

    Spoilers Falllout season 2 discussion

Yeah, not too many people he could have been working for, but the enclave never crossed my mind for most of it, especially since they sprinkled in the flashbacks with Mr House doing the mind control experiment.

What Geek Media Do You Refuse To Partake In?

I haven't read any of the original Holmes books, but in all the media I have seen, he comes across as a bit of a dick.

    Spoilers Falllout season 2 discussion

I dunno about Hank, I think he's truly gone. Clearly a fanatic, taking his own "life" to keep the secrets of the enclave. Actually, I thought that was a good bit of misdirection, up until quite late in the season, I thought Hank worked for Mr House

    Spoilers Falllout season 2 discussion

I think the supermutant is likely one of the smarter types from early on in the game's history. New Vegas had some smart supermutants running around from memory and I believe I've read that fallout 1 or 2 had some smart ones as well.

D&D General D&D Archetypes that spread out to other settings and media

I've never actually read Smith, though I've got his Hyperborea cycle to read, and only ever read a single Lovecraft story. I'm not really into cosmic horror. Read plenty of Howard though and am going through reading all of his Kull stories at the moment.

D&D General Why is the multi-classing spell slot math so weird?

I remember seeing this back in early 5e and didn't like it, if we weren't all using dndbeyond I'd have just stacedk caster levels so a level 7 EK with caster level 3 adding a level of wizard would have caster level 4.

D&D General D&D Archetypes that spread out to other settings and media

Not half an hour ago I came across this story while trying to recall the name of another author of the time (Clark Ashton Smith, he Lovecraft, and Howard all shared or borrowed ideas). Apparently, the writing style of Lord Dunsany who wrote the TKoED was inspirational to many other weird tale...

D&D General Gods, huh, what are they good for?

I've been reading a lot of conan stories and rpg books lately and you could run gods like that setting. Some gods are just powerful entities worshipped it of fear and just waiting to be killed by an angry barbarian. Other gods like Set and Mitra are unknowable, do they really exist or do they...

    Spoilers Falllout season 2 discussion

I sort of wonder if the brotherhood will take back stage a bit while other story threads take centre place. With Lucy and Max back together and the ghoul finding out his family went to Colorado I also think there will be less flashbacks. Definitely keen to find out what phase 2 is. Maybe it...

D&D General D&D Archetypes that spread out to other settings and media

But did it predate the tinker class in dragonlance 1e?

D&D General D&D Archetypes that spread out to other settings and media

I'd say the look of halflings changed to match kender from dragonlance. By 3e they seemed to have dropped the appearance of hobbits from lord of the rings. Tieflings, aasimar, and genasi moved (I think) from planescape to the FR. I'm not sure if they existed before the 2e planescape setting...

    Spoilers Falllout season 2 discussion

Great ending, looks like the Enclave are going to be a major part of season 3. Loved Hank's comment "The vaults were never the experiment, the experiment was the surface"

Sunday Chat: What New Editions Were Upgrades? Which Ones Were Downgrades?

I thought the 2e upgrade of M&M was great for sure, I think the 3e update was fine, I'm not sure if it was strictly necessary but I did appreciate the DC versions with all of the heroes and villains. For DnD, I started with BECMI before moving to 2e which I thought was an upgrade. 3e when it...

What is/are your most recent TTRPG purchase(s)?

I'm the same, rather than go for fancy colours and gimmicky dice I can't easily use, I go for plain, light coloured dice with black numbers, nice and easy to read.

What Geek Media Do You Refuse To Partake In?

If I'm working or doing game prep, I've found that anything I'm listening too isn't really being paid enough attention for me to recall it anyway, I just can't split my attention enough to make it worthwhile.

What Geek Media Do You Refuse To Partake In?

This reminds me that I lose interest in a lot of content that I might otherwise be interested in because people feel the need to post it on youtube. Like: "Here's 5 things that might help you become a better DM, let's go over them in my 15 minute video." I'd much rather skim a write-up.
