Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft Review Round-Up – What the Critics Say

Hmm, well I guess I see your point. Kind of seemed like they were just taking a jab at old Ravenloft or classic horror stories. Like if why not say offensive tropes instead of outdated? I mean, Ravenloft is full of outdated tropes but many of those are not offensive. And yes, some of the...

Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft Review Round-Up – What the Critics Say

Overall I like the book. One thing that really jumped out at me as very off-putting was the Subvert Cliches section on pg. 189. Badwrongfun from WotC... Yikes.

D&D 5E You Can Now Get Minis For The D&D Combat Wheelchair

In the pdf for the chair that the minis are based on, it says they have a self propulsion rune that lets the character move the chair telepathically. Kind of silly, but maybe could be fun in a more off the wall style game.

D&D 5E ‘Best’ Adventurers League season / adventures

Dark Pyramid of Sorcerer's Isle from season 1 has been my favorite that I've played.

D&D 5E How weak is Athlete Feat?

Admittedly this is a very niche use, but there is a pretty cool Druid/Monk grappler build based around grappling and then jumping the enemy up in the air and then powerbomb/suplex/your flavor of choice them to the ground for fall damage. Athlete feat is a super big part of making that work at all.

D&D 5E New Errata Released For D&D PHB, OotA, Xanathar, and ToF

I agree with the others that I don't want to see 4e-style balancing errata, but I'm willing to set that aside in the case of Healing Spirit. I DM 2 games every week and have never seen it cast in combat since XGE was released. It honestly was a drain on the fun no matter how you handled it...

D&D 5E What battle system would you prefere for Baldur's Gate 3?

I liked Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 for a lot of reasons. RTwP was not one of them. Glad that Larian decided to go with something else.

WotC's 2017 Convention Schedule Includes New Hascon, No GenCon

Yeah, Paizo took the majority of the player base away for 4 or 5 years and then on top of that, took over WotC's old location in Sagamore ballroom for Gen Con. I'm sure it was tough for them to have to stomach launching 5E while relegated to the board gaming hall. Gen Con is expensive, but I'm...

No WotC At Gen Con This Year?

Hmm, yeah that's probably spot on. I bet for the cost of doing Gen Con, WotC can do Origins, Winter Fantasy and Gary Con. And although the PAX conventions are probably similar cost to Gen Con, they are always going to do those because that's where they play the Acquisitions Incorporated games...

No WotC At Gen Con This Year?

See I think that's the thing, WotC can't get a nice somewhat quiet space at Gen Con like they used to have when they were in the Sagamore ballroom, so now they have decided to stop coming. It really makes them look kind of bad when they have a little roped off area in Hall D, while Paizo is...

No WotC At Gen Con This Year?

I would be with you on this, but Baldman runs Winter Fantasy and runs the D&D events at Origin just like at Gen Con. I've been to Winter Fantasy and Baldman does an even better job there than at Gen Con. Last year was Baldman's first year running D&D at Gen Con on their own. I felt like they...

No WotC At Gen Con This Year?

I think WotC and Gen Con have some beef or something. Maybe because they can't get Sagamore Ballroom or some other nice area in the convention center? For years, it used to be WotC up in Sagamore at Gen Con and it was a great location for them, but then 2 or3 years ago Paizo took it over. The...

No WotC At Gen Con This Year?

They are all gaming conventions, Origins is a little smaller than Gen Con and traditionally is more board/card game focused, where Gen Con came from a more RPG and miniature gaming angle. Although, there is plenty of all of that at both of them now. Winter Fantasy is pretty much all RPGs and...

    Is the "Conpocalypse" Nigh?

I didn't really feel like convention space was much of an issue this year at Gen Con, despite the record attendance again. The only time I felt it got too crowded was Saturday right after the costume parade. I think the bigger issue is downtown hotel space. I live in Indy so I don't have to...

What's Happening In D&D At PAX Prime?

Population epicenter is technically Missouri, so Indianapolis kind of isn't a bad choice as far as average travelling distance goes. I don't blame West Coasters for not feeling up for that long of a journey, but coming from other regions, it's much more doable.
