    D&D 5E (2024) Variant True Strike

I saw a funny version once. You spend an action to automatically hit and deal your weapon damage. No modifiers. It could be blocked by the Shield spell. Magic missile in a sword, basically!

    D&D 5E (2024) Conjure Minor Elemental One Year+ On

Not mine, or at least not combinations of things. Like, nobody feels like they own fireball or spiritual guardians, so everyone uses a lot of those. But things like the old Polearm Master + Sentinel only happened a few times across all my games. And even simple things sometimes get avoided...

    D&D 5E (2024) Conjure Minor Elemental One Year+ On

The main thing I run into with "overpowered" anything is... it's usually only one or two characters, tops. Player A does it and has his fun, but his next character is different. Maybe a year later Player B decides to give it a try, and she has her fun. And then it just doesn't come up as much...

D&D 5E (2014) Dungeons of Drakkenheim: a dark fantasy sandbox in a ruined city

Tone on the internet is hard to read, but that sounds like serious OOC friction!

D&D General So… psionic powers are no longer purely mental?

They touch their heads, hold harmonizing crystals, and say "MUDAMUDAMUDA!" Alternatively, "There is no spoon."

    D&D General Mounted Archers

Take the Dodge action to hang sideways on your horse and lower your profile against enemy archers!

    D&D General Rules that weren't...

Larian used the wrong Mystra! They fell for the horny memes of the old dead Mystra. I think "she died in the 80s" counts as a forgotten rule. :geek:

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Classes without Subclasses?

I ran a game where everyone got 2 subclasses. It was... hilariously fun. I absolutely recommend trying it out at least once. It does raise the power level of the PCs, but that's easily accounted for on your side of the screen. Anyone who picked Paladin only had to deal with a single set of...

D&D's Obelisk Plotline Was Supposed to Be Resolved in Vecna: Eve of Ruin

Yep! And slightly before 4E (2007) there was an article that described his Hall of Secrets, which is a place where dark practitioners could research anything they want as long as they tell Vecna what they learn. So, he essentially became the God of Plagiarism. I can't hold it against him...

D&D's Obelisk Plotline Was Supposed to Be Resolved in Vecna: Eve of Ruin

It  is a pretty easy step for any dark wizard. Full stop. And Vecna is  less secretive and more flashy and audacious than most. There are far more sneaky manipulative and secretive liches out there, like Szass Tam and Larloch. Or, heck, even non-secret gods like Bane had a whole Zhentarim spy...

Homebrew Do people in your game world put cheese on their apple pies??

Never heard of cheese on apple pie, but I like pineapple on pizza, so what do I know?

D&D's Obelisk Plotline Was Supposed to Be Resolved in Vecna: Eve of Ruin

Hard to say. Mostly just because he shows up for work on the regular and gets foiled. He has lots of face time, and that lets him win popularity contests. There's nothing he specifically does that is more lichy than any other lich. If anything, I would say Larloch is the pinnacle of Lichdom, if...

D&D's Obelisk Plotline Was Supposed to Be Resolved in Vecna: Eve of Ruin

100% agreed. Vecna has almost nothing to do with secrets, and it was strange he became the God of Secrets. He's always been rather flashy, and has more in common with someone like Xykon than Larloch. You  could say his artifacts spy on people, or he was  told secrets by a greater entity, but...

D&D's Obelisk Plotline Was Supposed to Be Resolved in Vecna: Eve of Ruin

Vecna is Skeletor. Much of his popularity (besides his artifacts) comes from just showing up every Saturday morning to attempt his dastardly plot and get foiled. Often with funny looking henchmen. Tiamat is in a similar boat. They both clock in for work on the regular. :geek:

    Dragon Reflections 101

It always feels like people have an ANGER inside of them, and it needs to go somewhere. And lacking a grand cause to direct their anger, it will be vented upon small things.

Sister harpies help each other out with their feet, combing hair, picking lice, putting in little bits of stolen jewelry, etc.

How Complex Do You Prefer Your TTRPG Systems In General

Yeah, it creates a strange sort of "implied to be worse" reverse engineering the DM has to do. Everyone can try to disarm. The Battlemaster does X when they disarm. Ergo, the DM has to now figure out how to allow disarming in the normal way that does not diminish / is weaker than the...
