    D&D General Adventuring Temp Agency

We had session zero today, 8 players showed up. We had a few PHBs but found it easier to let new players create characters on DNDBeyond. We were sticking with 2014 as that's what a couple people had for PHB, but one of the newbies made a 2024 Ranger, but I let him stick with it, thinking it...

    D&D General Adventuring Temp Agency

I have extra dice trays and dice. We'll be definitely doing theater of the mind, probably side initiative. To me group decision-making is can be as much fun as completing the narrative so I'll play that by ear. The sessions will hopefully be 2 hours and episodic so the importance of note-taking...

    D&D General Adventuring Temp Agency

Yeah, maybe I'll just pop in each of their IRL offices between sessions and close the door -- "How would you rate your overall performance?"

    D&D General Adventuring Temp Agency

I say an hour with a little extra — I think most people can stretch it to 2 hours with a more relaxed summer schedule 🤞🏻

    D&D General Adventuring Temp Agency

Hoping to get enough interest for a weekly D&D at work this summer during the lunch hour (plus a little extra as people are able), I decided to send an invite to all 18 of my co-workers. I'm overwhelmed with the response -- Ten have accepted to come to session zero with a couple more tentative...

D&D General Homebrew Witch Class ideas +

I had just started brainstorming a campaign around the concept of Hagception: a PC coven (hexbloods, warlocks, etc. plus homebrew) that enters dreams, maybe from their swamp treehouse with a vampire cabal in the nearby town as the big bads.

D&D (2024) Monster Manual 2025: Is Multiattack order prescriptive now?

Personally, without a clear sequence, I'd play a monster -- even an unintelligent one -- with it instinctively knowing how to best use its basic abilities. Would it have been nice to have WOTC help newer GMs know what order that is, sure.

D&D (2024) Monster Manual 2025: Is Multiattack order prescriptive now?

I feel like if order mattered, it would have said "then" instead of "and."

D&D (2024) Bonus action minor illusion (wizard illusionist 3rd level ability) creating cover and halflings

The 2014 spell says: "Physical interaction with the image reveals it to be an illusion, because things can pass through it. If a creature uses its action to examine the sound or image, the creature can determine that it is an illusion with a successful Intelligence (Investigation) check against...

D&D (2024) Bonus action minor illusion (wizard illusionist 3rd level ability) creating cover and halflings

2014: “it must be no larger than a 5-foot cube.” Halfling not cramped in a 5’ cube crate. “Physical interaction with the image reveals it to be an illusion, because things can pass through it.” Arrow through illusion crate reveals illusion but illusion stays in place so no line of sight between...

D&D (2024) Command is the Perfect Encapsulation of Everything I Don't Like About 5.5e

The spell says the caster says a word and the target must obey, but the target also must understand the language or it fails. Failing to understand language is similar to failing to understand intention. The spell spells out what happens with certain command words. The DM decides what happens...

D&D (2024) Command is the Perfect Encapsulation of Everything I Don't Like About 5.5e

The spell says it does rely on caster's intent or literal definition but DM's discretion. Wouldn't that more likely mean that it's how the creature interprets the word, likely the simplest interpretation? Grovel making a flying creature fall prone would cause it to harm itself which the spell...

D&D (2024) Command is the Perfect Encapsulation of Everything I Don't Like About 5.5e

The spells fails because the target would hardly ever know what that word means. And what kind of “historically” are we talking about? A history that includes magic and dragons?

D&D (2024) Command is the Perfect Encapsulation of Everything I Don't Like About 5.5e

The new version actually empowers players. The way it was written in 2014 left interpretation of a Command word in the DM’s hands. Yell Tip or Duck (both from the OP’s example list), and there are multiple meanings; the caster does not decide which. By definition an 1-word command is vague and...

D&D 5E Escaping from (rope) bonds... What is your ruling?

The PHB says: “Acrobatics. Your Dexterity (Acrobatics) check covers your attempt to stay on your feet in a tricky situation, such as when you're trying to run across a sheet of ice, balance on a tightrope, or stay upright on a rocking ship's deck. The DM might also call for a Dexterity...

Is it fun to plan a heist?

I keep hearing (mostly YouTubers) saying that planning a heist is problematic so suggest Blades in Dark or similar games with rules to skip over it. Some say players don’t have the expertise to rob a bank any more than they know how to wield a sword and shield. Other stated reasons include: it...

    Scavengers reign

I’d love a ttrpg based off of this.
