Kalamar - first published 4e setting?!?

So, in short, the worst thing it seems people can find about Kalamar is that it's names are weird? Sounds like a damn good setting then.

Kalamar - first published 4e setting?!?

And one last question before I impulse buy this :P Are there solid adventure hooks in there? I know from reading the preview that it suggests there are.. but.. does anyone with experience on this know if that's a legit statement?

Kalamar - first published 4e setting?!?

Mark, if I may ask.. Would you recommend the adventures for 4e as well? I know it SAYS that they work.. but.. I mean, let's be honest and such :) How much fluff vs crunch do they have? I'm heavily considering the campaign setting and an adventure to get me going.. my players like the FR ...

Kalamar - first published 4e setting?!?

I'm looking for a good setting to start a 4e game in.. I was thinking a bout upconverting Eberron, but I don't know a lot about that world.. would this be a good setting for a GM who's not used to using campaign settings and instead is used to doing homebrew worlds?

What direction will D&D head in?

You said "collectible cards." That works in scenarios where there is competition.. but not in scenarios where there is not. Hasbro already has a competitive collectible D&D . It's called D&D Minis. What you're talking about is, again, diluting and constricting a market. Avalon Hill tried...

What direction will D&D head in?

I just think it's silly to act as though they're GOING to do it because they're "a big business." The question isn't "is the game making enough", it's is the market cap being realized. If you turn D&D into a CCG, then you're going to lose M:TG players AND D&D players. The M:TG players will...

What direction will D&D head in?

I hear this so many times from the "Wizards/Hasbro is turning D&D into Magic" crowd, but I don't understand why you think it to be true. Why would they compete against another product of theirs? Look, they're going to get the sales if they keep it as is. This company is not a stupid...

What direction will D&D head in?

I'm actually quite chuffed about that being changed, to be honest. My players tended to be splatbook minmaxers , and it meant that if you were not good at doing that in my group, you'd get wiped out by an encounter I'd create to try to actually challenge those that were good at it.

What direction will D&D head in?

My opinion is thus: First off, 4e is not going anywhere. It's a solidly (for the most part) designed system that has gotten a large number of people back into the game. The first print run supposedly sold more than 3.0s first print run, and we're now in a second print run that is doing equally...

Goodman is clearly going to the GSL.

Reason against porn: The Book of Erotic Fantasy Fiasco.

    Death of the LGS

How do you know they've done nothing?

Goodman is clearly going to the GSL.

Kind of. But a company signing under the GSL doesn't mean they HAVE to use the items under the GSL. It doesn't mean that you're going to get a better quality in product, it just means you're getting an end product with a "Licensed for D&D" on it. I can make a module that uses orcs, and...

    Death of the LGS

Amazon Canada did that, I believe.. but not so much. I've heard more cases of Game stores breaking street date than Amazon cases, though. And more cases of Waldenbooks/B&N/Borders than that.

Goodman is clearly going to the GSL.

But note that by going with the GSL you're not stopped from facing the same issues. The quality controls on the GSL are just anti-porn, anti-racism, and anti-gore.

Amazon finally shipped my core gift set

Nah. It's just amazon doing what amazon does. They're famous for selling before having the items, and then trying to backstock their supplies. It's why I initially ordered through them, then cancelled when I saw the first delay. I've played this game before. My suspicion is that most...

    The tragedy of 4th edition.

That thread title was what did it for me. It's only meant to encourage an inflammatory discussion. If this is a "tragedy", I do NOT encourage people to compare them to ANY of the previous editions. Because as you do, if you rate this a tragedy, you'll rate the previous editions as: "A...

    Death of the LGS

That's kind of unfair to put on us, though. I mean, why support the local parasite who's going to pay some kid $5.75 an hour, run a dump, and charge full price for products that are sold to them for less? Okay, yes, I understand that Amazon's markdowns were significant.. but I also know for...

    The tragedy of 4th edition.

This was an edition war the moment he pointed out something bad about 4.0 that didn't exist in 3.0. Just because I pointed it out doesn't mean I made it into one. EDIT: Actually, let me clarify. THis became an edition war the second he used the topic title: "The Tragedy of 4th Edition."

    The tragedy of 4th edition.

Sorry, but discussing rules and why rules were chosen.. specifically the comments about the rogues.. go directly to gameplay. It's a review. And it's an edition war thread.

    The tragedy of 4th edition.

I like how you say this is not a review, and then promptly review it. I don't know, I find this to be a more prepared and more thought out product than 3.0 was. I doubt there will be a 4.5, as they've stated their intent to fix things online, but, still. Compared to 3.0 when it wasn't even...
