Monsters & More: An In-Depth Review of the 2025 D&D Monster Manual

The revised and expanded Monster Manual completes the 2024 anniversary editions of the D&D core rule books. My MM preview has already provided a lot of information on the new bestiary so this review will focus on what I didn't know when I wrote the preview or things that I can elaborate on more...

Dungeons & Dragons Monster Manual 2024 Preview

The last of the 2024 expansions of the core 5E D&D rule books, the Monster Manual, is set to arrive in February. So right on time, Wizards is starting to drop information about what it contains, including a press preview, where we were able to ask some questions. Interestingly, though, this was...

In-Depth Review of the 2024 Dungeon Master's Guide

When Wizards of the Coast announced new versions of the Player's Handbook, Dungeon Master's Guide, and Monster Manual for the 10th anniversary of 5E and the 50th anniversary of Dungeons & Dragons itself, it was not met with cheers. Lots of fans thought it was unnecessary, and I was skeptical...

    A Deep Dive into the 2024 D&D Player's Handbook

I doubt the gem dragons will be in the 2025 Monster Manual but I'll still be disappointed that they aren't. For me, the neutral gem dragons are sorely neglected and provide an interesting pivot point in terms of chromatic versus metallic dragons that Wizards doesn't sufficiently take advantage of.

    A Deep Dive into the 2024 D&D Player's Handbook

After all the back and forth of the public play tests and listening to the Wizards of the Coast team talk about their plans for the 2024 revised core rulebooks, I've been eager to jump into the new Player's Handbook. Originally, I even planned to go through the 2014 and 2024 books to explain all...

A Sneak Peek of the 2024 D&D Dungeon Master's Guide

yes, Wyatt referenced the mirror plane but I have a question about it so I held off including it in my article until I get clarification. When I do, I'll update my article to talk about it.

A Sneak Peek of the 2024 D&D Dungeon Master's Guide

If you're on the fence, that's valid, and you can wait until my full review "everyone" includes long-time D&D staffers because they're the ones who said it. ;-)

A Sneak Peek of the 2024 D&D Dungeon Master's Guide

They weren't mentioned or listed in the summaries we were given so I believe they've been moved to the MM, which makes a certain amount of sense, especially if page counts factored in.

A Sneak Peek of the 2024 D&D Dungeon Master's Guide

When the 2024 versions of the core D&D trilogy were announced, Creative Director Chris Perkins said that he planned to tear apart the Dungeon Master's Guide and reassemble it in a way that's more user friendly for both experienced and new DMs. I can't comment as to whether Perkins succeeded or...

In-Depth Review of Quests from the Infinite Staircase

Another entry in Wizards' celebration of D&D's 50th anniversary and the 10th anniversary of 5E is Quests from the Infinite Staircase. Introduced in 2nd Edition, the Infinite Staircase is a plot device that allows DMs to send players to whatever setting suits the DM's purpose. For this...

A Peek at Quests from the Infinite Staircase

To further celebrate the 50th anniversary of D&D, Wizards is releasing another adventure anthology, Quests from the Infinite Staircase, specifically one akin to Tales of the Yawning Portal or Ghosts of Saltmarsh wherein old adventures are revised and updated for 2024. “I always try to treat...

Hidden Treasure from The Making of Original Dungeons & Dragons

This nearly 600-page book is no mere tome, it's an artifact. A Historical Artifact While many may compare The Making of Original Dungeons & Dragons: 1970-1977 to a tome – and at 576 pages that's not an inaccurate description – a more accurate assessment would be to compare it to an artifact...

A Preview of The Making of Original Dungeons & Dragons: 1970-1977

It's not surprising that Wizards' releases for 2024 largely center around the 50th anniversary of Dungeons & Dragons. In Vecna: Eve of Ruin, Wizards' goal was the biggest adventure 5E has seen, with one of the game's oldest villains. With The Making of Original Dungeons & Dragons: 1970-1977...

Wizards Goes Big with Vecna: Eve of Ruin

Vecna: Eve of Ruin Adventure -- An “Off the Rails” Adventure for D&D's Anniversary

Wizards' first book for its 50th anniversary year is aiming for the stars, which is appropriate for a multiverse-spanning adventure. The infamous lich Vecna has a plan to recreate the D&D Multiverse in his own image, with cultists on every plane of existence working toward that goal. That's...

Dungeons & Dragons: The Fallbacks: Bound for Ruin Review

If the Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves: Road to Neverwinter novel whet your appetite for D&D fiction (or more D&D fiction), the new novel, Dungeons & Dragons: The Fallbacks: Bound for Ruin will satisfy that urge. Both novels were written by Jaleigh Johnson, a veteran of Forgotten Realms'...
