RPG Print News – Vaesen, Castles & Crusades, Liminal Horror, and More

I could be mistaken, but I don't think 4th edition has been released to the wild yet. There's an interview with the game designer about the 4th edition Kickstarter here. It doesn't go into a lot of detail mechanically but the comments were pretty lively with a lot of players weighing in. I...

RPG Print News – Vaesen, Castles & Crusades, Liminal Horror, and More

The first edition of Colonial Gothic was fantastic. We had a lot of fun playing this supernatural horror game set amidst the terror and bloodshed of savage warfare in a colonial landscape. I haven't seen or played this edition, but the setting and concept are both really solid-- I'd recommend...

Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 5th Edition Is Coming in 2026

Agreed. Plus there are new/alternate character professions in at least six or seven splatbooks. 4th edition has a few rough spots to be ironed out, but overall the biggest overhaul that it's screaming for is organizational.

Godzilla Roleplaying Game Launching in 2026

As long as I don't have to play Gamura. I'm so over having to be a friend to all children!

RPG CROWDFUNDING NEWS – Pendragon, Dark Forest, RAGNABORG, and more

We had some great times playing the original Pendragon, although our campaign didn't last long enough to take advantage of multiple generations of characters-- something that I always regretted never getting back to. I also vaguely remember that one of the rules in this edition was kind of...

Enclave: the diceless, yet mechanically deep, narrative roleplaying game

A couple of general questions, to anyone familiar with this game: how hackable is it? For example, how much work would be involved in a custom character profession? How closely are the 12 existing professions tied to the game's default setting? Are the basic professions flexible enough to...

Gaming Journalist Rob Wieland Passes At Age 48

Rob was really kind and encouraging to total strangers in the gaming space, both at conventions and online. I didn't know him personally beyond those public interactions, but he seemed like a really good guy who genuinely and sincerely wanted to make games that people had fun playing. My...

Traveller: the iconic science fiction roleplaying game

This was kind of my take on the mechanic, as well, although in practice we generally just backed up to the last successful enlistment (the one before the character-to-be snuffed it) and ended character generation there. I agree with both of you but also felt drawn to the game as a GM because...

Traveller: the iconic science fiction roleplaying game

This is 100% valid and I remember it being a slog in some of my Traveller campaigns. But then I had other groups of players who seized on the cargo mechanic and had fun tracking it the same way that some D&D players enjoy managing copper and silver pieces and calculating encumbrance. I think...

Traveller: the iconic science fiction roleplaying game

I spent many, many hours playing Traveller with friends in the late 80s and early 90s. It's hard to understand why Traveller's popularity hasn't persisted and grown the way that D&D's popularity did. I always suspected that it was more than the chance of character death during character...

    White Dwarf Reflections #29

I think the lack of balance was actually part of what made Stormbringer so much fun. Characters were just playthings of the gods in an age-old battle between law and chaos. Everybody got hosed eventually. Life could be as cruel and end as unpredictably for the mighty knight in shining armor...

    White Dwarf Reflections #29

I ran the 'Weed War' Traveller scenario! I actually used it as an introductory scenario leading into 'The Traveller Adventure,' which was published I think the next year. There's a sub-plot in 'The Traveller Adventure' about two competing shipping firms fighting over wine distribution rights...

    Sci-Fi TTRPGS for September

Very cool! I played a lot of Traveller in the FASA days but hate to admit I never updated and didn't keep up with the game past about 1990.
