I like that they're eliminating the one- or two-handed design pattern for monsters. I haven't had a single instance where I've had a monster switch grip in the 7 years I've been running 5th edition games. While that's just my experience, it feels like unnecessary complexity in the statblock to me.

I'm super stoked to see Loot Tavern and Griffon's Saddlebag here. I've been pulling in Griff's stuff as homebrew for years now, and I've started doing the same for some of the stuff that Loot Tavern does. Not having to do that anymore will be helpful. :)

Same here. The PHB is where the actual mechanical rules of the game reside. The DMG is "just" fluff and the MM is just statblocks around base mechanics that aren't really changing. I'm looking forward to seeing what "fluff" they actually change in the DMG.
