D&D General [rant]The conservatism of D&D fans is exhausting.

That is not what the fallacy is, the fallacy is about a perceived authority, not an actual authority. What you are describing are actual authorities, not perceived authorities.

Exactly, the DM, and players agree on the game they are going to play ideally before the game starts. Less than ideal, but perfectly acceptable and far more common is to work through the incompatible play and arrive at a great game in spite of play style incompatibilities. Communication is...

D&D General [rant]The conservatism of D&D fans is exhausting.

I identify it as I stated, it is an attempt to protect the players from themselves, especially when they miss the cues that say your choice of combat, or diving into lava et al is an inescapable death sentence in this particular interaction.

D&D General [rant]The conservatism of D&D fans is exhausting.

There is a reason the phrase "Are you SURE you want to do that?" is a mantra in D&D. DM control is as much about saving players from themselves as it is anything else. Few DM'S relish a TPK, but players try to off themselves with surprising regularity.

Haggling is still very much used in modern society, it has just taken the form of coupons, app discounts, member discounts, employment discounts et al. The haggle is knowing what is available and asking for it.

I believe the inverse is far more true.

D&D General How to DM, best resource

It is available as on Kindle and audible, I have it in all 3 formats. I "read" it via audible, and use the book and e book for reference. Also not all 11 year old are the same, young people have time and drive so if they are interested in a subject the more "advanced" information is better...

D&D General How to DM, best resource

I got a lot out of these books when I started DMing more than the odd one shot the last couple of years, friends getting into DMing have found the useful as well. "The Lazy DM's" series of books by Michael Shea. "The Monsters Know What They're Doing" series by Keith Ammann. "So You Want To...

D&D General I wish people would avoid name-dropping Gary Gygax

Wizbro is no better in that sense, heck they have been caught REMOVING credits from publications gotta love digital media! Let's not forget creating is not the same as owning 😉

D&D General I wish people would avoid name-dropping Gary Gygax

Regardless of how flawed early D&D was, his greatest contribution to modern gaming has little to do with that. What is important is how he worked to get it to be the most recognizable TTRPG. Live him or hate him (and there are many valid reasons for both) he made that happen, did he have help...

I think it came out after D&D didn't it?

And what would their games look like?

D&D General I wish people would avoid name-dropping Gary Gygax

True, but what would TTRPG'S and everything that has spun off of D&D look like had he stuck with cobbling shoes? For better or worse he was the reason we got D&D. Leadership matters.

D&D (2024) How D&D Beyond Will Handle Access To 2014 Rules

I gave you a starting place, dig in I will not do your research for you😉. Their initial plan was not disclosed until days before rollout, their marketing in the many videos for over a year with Perkins et al stating we had nothing to worry about and then we did if we were not going to adopt...

D&D (2024) How D&D Beyond Will Handle Access To 2014 Rules

Many, many times. Though they didn't say what level of support, and when they said compendium only and you were going to have to homebrew 100's of things in just a few days is when the excrement hit the air mover.

D&D (2024) Potential other "rules expansion" books

I have hopes for this direction, but I will not be pre-ordering. It's gonna be wait and see for me, hard covers and quality usable content with good reviews are key to getting me to open my purse.

D&D 5E I feel like the surveys gaslit WotC about """"Backwards Compatibility""""

The fix will likely both be free and unannounced "eratta", less pushback that way. I'm sure the 5.5 phb roll out on DDB is far from forgotten by those incharge of implementations like this. It will be easier to do it like they did the market place, than risk a last minute revolt again.
