D&D General Belts of Giant Strength?

This does make building around the item (eg dumping strength and expecting the belt to cover the difference) impossible, which I think most of us would agree is a good thing for preventing cheese (barring certain kinds of silly games where munchkining is encouraged) It can have a weird side...

    D&D General Discworld alignments

Brother Brutha is the epitome of Neutral Good. Om is chaotic neutral by instinct (much like all gods) but accepts some law is better than none. Old-book Omnians, however, were lawful evil or true neutral, while new-covenant Omnians are annoyingly lawful good.

D&D General I finally like non-Tolkien species for PCs

Draconians and especially kolbolds fill different fantasy niches - kolbolds would be a bad fit for a genneral "dragon-person" race; they're a small race first and craft second. Closer to gnomes but ugly-cute instead of regular-cute. Draconians are closer; they have some evil origin baggage that...

D&D General I finally like non-Tolkien species for PCs

In practice they're the fourth most popular race, behind humans, elves, and tieflings. (If half-elves are counted as a separate race they come in third). So more popular than dwarves or halflings at least.

What do YOU plan on doing with Daggerheart?

I never thought about it but - yeah Wegman's would work.

What do YOU plan on doing with Daggerheart?

Only if you have a quiet pub that’ll let you take up a large table for four hours. That’s a rarity in the US. Game stores, on the other hand, will usually have tables and either sell you food or be near a pizza place.

D&D General 70% Of Games End At Lvl 7?

Where I have seen this work 9 times out of ten it’s because the pc found a leadership position in universe: like the old-school “getting a keep” but generally much looser in terms of rules. But that does redefine the character by a massive horizontal power boost, so your point stands.

    Running multiple games in parallel?

Never tried it myself, but I've seen it happen. You just gotta be willing to put a lot of time into it. For myself, I find I need to set aside about as much time for prep as the session will run; ie a four-hour session will take up to four hours to prep. Most of this time was getting the VTT...

D&D 5E (2014) Onmyoji: A class in production: feedback welcome

Definitely an improvement. It might be worthwhile to write up a few specific seals for feedback.

D&D 5E (2014) Onmyoji: A class in production: feedback welcome

Hmm. Making a class too focused on a certain type of enemy generally doesn't work well; they'll be too weak in fights against humanoids and beasts. You might think you can balance this by making them overpowered in demon fights, but aside from requiring the dm now have to worry about...

D&D General 70% Of Games End At Lvl 7?

My actual experience matches this, but based on how these conversations go and the actual data we have I think we're the outliers. Most people just struggle to keep a group together for that long.

D&D General 70% Of Games End At Lvl 7?

With weekly play, that's 26 sessions if exactly none get canceled. More likely it's about 20 sessions. In other words, if you level up every session you actually play, 1-20 is barely possible to do in six months.

D&D General 70% Of Games End At Lvl 7?

I've been in a lot of 3-20 campaigns, and a few 1-20's. They take 5+ years at least. Getting a group together for that is the main outlier. If you only play a campaign for a year (much more realistic) it's hard to do more than ten levels, and probably more realistic to do 5 or fewer. So 3-8...

So you're done with D&D but still want to play D&Dish fantasy...

Near as I can tell, Daggerheart is one step toward narrative-focused play (starting from 5e). So if you like 5e but wish it was a little easier to refluff, was more flexible on backstory, and had more roleplaying prompts than 5e, Daggerheart might be right for you. If you’re starting from a...

D&D General What if we gave dragonborn four arms?

I never minded dragonborn, I think they might be my favorite DnD race -but I can understand why some people don't like them aesthetically. I also don't want wings on my dragonborn because I want them to be distinct from half-dragons - but that's also mostly an aesthetic preference. I'd...

D&D General What if we gave dragonborn four arms?

Some dms don't mind flying pcs, other despise them. I think it depends on the kinds of encounters you like to make, since flight trivializes some and is barely even useful in others. I don't know if I'd want flight on a core race, though. That makes it harder for dms to restrict it.

    Daggerheart General Thread [+]

It seems like learning to use Fear in a fun way is going to be the main skill for gming Daggerheart well. Yeah this is the main issue I see with this - unlucky rolling is potentially screwing the players three ways - more failure, more Fear, and less Hope. Any one of those wouldn't be a...
