D&D 5E My Take on the Modron (Houserule)

I might want to add THP on too. A lot of the monodrones, duodrones, etc. have sub-Fireball level HP if I recall correctly.

D&D 5E My Take on the Modron (Houserule)

The average on a d20 is 10.5. Half of the rolls should be 10, and half of them should be 11. Perhaps the Modrons get the 11s and their opponents get the 10s? It's a slight edge while maintaining something approaching statistical fairness.

D&D 5E My Take on the Modron (Houserule)

That does sound fun. My other problem with the Modrons is that they are all very low CR in the MM.

    D&D General Campaign epilogues

There was a great "how to do an epilogue" discussion about 4 years ago that I used to help shape the ending of Against the Idol of the Sun, but I don't remember enough details to find it. Include a Fallout-2 style ending recap where you give a few details about what happened to all the major...

D&D General How to DM, best resource

Eh, probably not. The only WOTC-written adventure I've ever played is RHOD. I may start him with a few short one-shots from the DM's Guild, but he and his little brother have been doing their own adventures together for several years, including a long running "button quest" with buttons, their...

D&D General How to DM, best resource

Is that due to adult content (language/concepts), or just length?

D&D General How to DM, best resource

Thanks everyone. It sounds like Justin Alexander's book is going to be the way to go.

D&D General How to DM, best resource

If your 11 year old wanted to be a DM, what is the one best resource you would point that kid to? I know there are several books out there. There are also a number of websites, although some (Angry DM) are not child appropriate. I'm specifically wanting something that covers the basics of...

D&D (2024) A Different Way To Run High Level Monsters

Here's how my dragon encounter went. This is in my Baldur's Gate II game. The party is 14th level: Cormak (storm cleric), Ludwig (arcane trickster), Mergand (Bhaalspawn sorcerer; crits on 19-20, heals with magical kills, etc.), and Korgan (13th level Champion fighter). They have a lot of...

D&D General WizKids Issues Refund for Baldur’s Gate 3 Character Boxed Set

I've never had the time or interest in painted minis... I use minis for my players and flat tokens (Dice of Rolling/Etsy) for enemies. I get tempted to pick up enemies from time to time, but I never use just ONE mind flayer - then I need a bunch, and then I need more, etc... I will confine my...

D&D 5E Wonder why there aren't any Elemental Domains (Earth, Air, Fire, Water)?

Druids basically already have the "spellcaster of the natural elements" covered. At mid to high levels they give up the plant and animal focus for "force of nature" blasting. They have fog, storm, wind, tornado, firestorm, several mediocre-to-bad earth attack spells (creating difficult terrain...

D&D General WizKids Issues Refund for Baldur’s Gate 3 Character Boxed Set

Those are pretty dire, and not in a good way. It seems like at some point there would be a market for a computer-controlled machine able to paint minis according to a program. Combine a 3D printer with inkjet technology not made by HP or Canon, and some sensors. Or do whatever Heroforge does...

    D&D 5E Aerial combat in 5e

Pretty much this, except I skipped the graph paper. My Against the Idol of the Sun had Aarakocra as the main enemies and a lot of flying boats. Everything is 5' cubes, with a "floor" of the top of the jungle canopy typically 20' below the fixed cruising height of the flying boats. The use of...

D&D General Would You Play High Level (12-15);Wiith Pre Generated Characters? Mostly 5.0/5.5 but theoretically any edition.

I would prefer a non-pregen character because that way I would be familiar with the rules. For some of my players IRL? A pre-gen character with a good summary sheet is going to be better than hopping on Beyond and building something (with a mix of 5e and 5.24 rules by accident) that they don't...

D&D (2024) A Different Way To Run High Level Monsters

My Baldur's Gate II party is about to drop onto Jierdan Firkraag, an ancient red dragon. The 5.14 MM dragon is pretty solidly threatening, although I was planning to also drop in a "spit fire" ranged attack in place of the bite. I didn't feel like the a5e Red Dragon was as strong or useful...

D&D 5E If you could run or play in any D&D 5e campaign right now, which would it be?

Published: Probably White Plume Mountain, although I think that may be a module instead of a campaign. Definitely something in the level 8-18 range instead of a 3 to 10.

    D&D (2024) Modest Ranger Fix

I play 5e, not 5.24, but my houserule is that Rangers get +Wismod to damage against Favored Enemies, starting at level 1. It's fine, it's not OP, and it's certainly not worth being a capstone feature. It's only certain enemy types, and Wisdom is a secondary stat so for most of the game it's +2...

    D&D (2024) I attack the darkness!

One of my early houserules was that if you can't see your target, you have disadvantage on your attack roll, even if they can't see you. There are a few ways to negate the disadvantage of course (5e True Strike, Reckless Attack, etc.). Yep. I do have a soft range cap for this... you can't...
