D&D (2024) Wizards of the Coast promises to release more “CRPGs that are going to be as serious as BG3” without Larian

They said it would be as serious as BG3. They did not say that it would be as good as BG3. All they're really saying is "it will not be a comedy".

D&D 5E Convince me that the Ranger is a necessary Class.

The question is not whether you can try something, the question is whether or not you can ever succeed at something. If you want to waste your characters time trying something that the rules will not let you do, absent the ability to do, so that is your choice. You can no more Grapple without...

    D&D (2024) What's Your 2026 WotC D&D Wishlist?

Make it a flip book with two front covers and bound upside down from each other, like an old Ace Double paperback.

D&D (2024) Line of sight ruling

Clearly everyone falls prone face up or their neck twisted so that they can still see everything, otherwise prone would impose some sort of penalties on perception, which it does not.

D&D (2024) Line of sight ruling

Note also that the Unconscious Condition says that you are unaware of your surroundings but it does NOT say that you have the Blinded condition, so maybe everyone in 5.24 passes out, and falls asleep, with their eyes open but with their brains incapable of processing what their eyes still see...

D&D (2024) Line of sight ruling

I believe that the rules on Medusa's permit you to avert your eyes, but is there anything on the rules that even allows characters to close their eyes or that say that closing your eyes is sufficient to Blind you? If so than anyone who has you mind controlled could just make you close your eyes...

What makes a TTRPG purchase "worth it" to you?

Whenever the net present hedonic value of the item exceeds the net present hedonic value of not spending the money, or or of spending it on something else, of course.

    Session Zero, then fight vermin.

D&D (2024) Potion miscibility, permanent effects and using potions in the future.

If one potion is permanent than every other potion they ever drink will have to be checked on the mixing table, since they will still be affected by the permanent one. Therefore they will have a 35% chance of a problem every time from now on. This may help balance this.

How Will The New Tariffs Affect TTRPG Prices?

So the thing is that books are printed on paper (mostly Canadian paper in the USA), and even if books are exempt the paper is not, so the books will go up some anyway.

    D&D General Limiting Utility Cantrips

Cantrips are already limited by how long you can talk and wiggle your arms before you get tired, as most of them have verbal and somatic components. I would be skeptical of anyone who thought that they could use them for more than 1,000 rounds in a row, or more than 4,000 rounds per day without...

Paksworld RPG Based On Elizabeth Moon's Novels

Sometimes people change their minds as they get older. This is normal and good and, in this case, good for role-players.

    What RPGs genres are lacking?

125 points + 20-30 in complications. So far I have a Native American scout/bounty hunter (our Doctor in Traveller), a black female Medical Doctor (I checked and there was at least one in America by then) (our Astrogator in Traveller), a gunsmith/businessman (our Planetologist in Traveller), and...

D&D 5E DM imposed restrictions to the game (+)

It depends on what I am trying to do in that game. When I run beginner games at the store I restrict players to non-evil Forgotten Realms content & characters, because that is where we are, and what is best for the other beginners. In my upcoming Greyhawk home game I will be restricting players...

    What RPGs genres are lacking?

It's not Weird West that is underrepresented, it is non-weird West that is underrepresented. Boot Hill is the classic but it is very combat centered, even more than D&D. Most other "westerns" add weird stuff, horror, alt-history, etc. There are a number of generic or multi-setting games that can...

    D&D 5E Downtime Activity: Spellcrafting+

How about +1 Caster Level or +1 Save DC or +1 to Hit, just as if you had spent the time building a +1 Implement instead of making up a spell?

D&D General Muscular Neutrality (thought experiment)

Without Muscular Neutrality you could get Krynn before the Cataclysm. With Divination spells and cross planetary gates powerful people on Greyhawk might well know about what happened to Krynn. This might cause them to conclude that they have to stop good from getting all powerful, so that...

TTRPG Genres You Just Can't Get Into -and- Tell Me Why I'm Wrong About X Genre I Don't Like

Example - What if the PC's are the crew of the ship that transports Dracula to England? Sailors can make great PC's from the DM's point of view, because they could be in any (coastal or maritime) location in the world that the DM wants to run an adventure in.

D&D 5E Which was the most recent Wizards adventure you consider a classic?

Tomb of Annihilation has a deeply flawed concept - you should not combine an urgent "everyone in the world who has ever died will die again in a few weeks" hook with a "picaresque, let's hex-crawl explore this large area" setting. They just do not go together. A group will either end up ignoring...
