D&D 5E Anyone else feel individual initiative is more trouble than it's worth?

Here's an alternative I'm going to try in my next session http://angrydm.com/2013/09/popcorn-initiative-a-great-way-to-adjust-dd-and-pathfinder-initiative-with-a-stupid-name/ Still gives the initiative skill *something* to go with (but barely). The biggest benefit is that it keeps players...

D&D 5E How should I lead my players from Phandalin to Greenest?

I haven't read enough of my HOTDQ book -- but any reason it needs to be Greenest and not some other city closer by? I figure you have to adjust for their level now anyway right? What if they skipped further ahead in the adventure, or simply had a different town under attack, with very similar...

    D&D 5E Any DMs ever use Tact-Tiles?

Do you think blank ones would be any better than ones with a grid? I imagine much easier map drawing and proportions keeping the squares on there?

    D&D 5E Any DMs ever use Tact-Tiles?

I saw these on kickstarter -- https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/804836187/tact-tiles-modular-wet-and-dry-erase-gaming-surfac Looks like they had a run of them about ~10 years ago. Did anyone ever use any and like them? Wondering if they are actually nice to have or not.

    D&D 5E Second Wind

2 or more short rests is a bag of rats. Why do players need more than 1 short rest? You can spend any number of hit die during 1 short rest. The only reason of course is to game 'other' recovery abilities, like second wind. That's not the intent of the ability. Players can take as many short...

    D&D 5E Second Wind

I also agree that I think the solution is the inability to chain together short rests. They would have to make it a long one, or 'encounter' something to split up the rest. One thought that comes to mind though is travel. What if the players fought something, fighter uses second wind. The...

D&D 5E Wizard with 20 CON and the Durable feat

How did the alpha word this feat? Was it something along the lines of you're guaranteed a minimum of your con modifier on each die ? Did they change the wording to what we have now, which is equivalent and more ambiguous?

D&D 5E Wizard with 20 CON and the Durable feat

    Agreed. I also think it's the final HP amount that's affected. MaxOf(10, 1d6+5). 10-11 vs 6-11.

    D&D 5E Moar Feats

Does this affect the roll or the roll + your con modifier? If its the latter, a 20 Con wizard gets 1d6 + 5. So with durable, he gets 10 or 11..?

D&D 5E A viable game and the vicious edition cycle

It feels like they really want to focus on making a solid game this time around, and let the merchandising (instead of additional rule books) be the economic driver of the edition. On that note - did 4E even license itself to any video games? I felt like that version, of any, was best suited to...

D&D 5E Thundertree (5ed Starter Box Set) Possible Spoilers

This is an excellent idea to make the encounter much more interesting. It actually provides some 'what are the NPCs doing here, and what is their motivation' to the whole area. I'm definitely going to steal your ideas and work with it. It'll be fun to 'homebrew' alter this piece to make it work.

D&D 5E Basic already surprising us.

Missed that one too. That makes it quite a bit nicer.

D&D 5E Lost Mine of Phandelver - comments and complaints after read-through (spoilers)

I'm thinking I'll just make the Druid discourage the players from trying to attack it. That any attempt to do so would likely end in their deaths. Maybe the bigger RP experience here is seeing if the Folk Hero char tries to get the party to attempt something stupid.

D&D 5E Lost Mine of Phandelver - comments and complaints after read-through (spoilers)

I also don't understand this green dragon. I really can't see how the players survive it in any non-fudged fashion. They *may* be level 3 at that point, but the dragon can do some serious AE damage (42 / half on a save). Even its normal (3-attacks) are 15+7,11,11 damage on average with a +7...

D&D 5E Just wrapped up four consecutive days of D&D 5th.

Did you add your con modifier to each hit die rolled?

D&D 5E Just wrapped up four consecutive days of D&D 5th.

This one seems weird to me too. I guess maybe the case of the Rogue using two weapons would give them the incentive to get in melee range. Another possibility -- can a halfling rogue successfully hide behind a fighter, move out with stealth and get advantage on their next attack? Obviously...

D&D 5E What direction should 5th edition take?

I would like to see a few changes in the combat / stat system. - Get rid of dailies, or re-design their recharging situation. Forcing the players to try to 'sleep' in a dungeon to re-power is counter-intuitive. Worse yet, right now players can safely blow all of their dailies if they have an...

    Combat encounter rebalancing

About his dice - You should look into buying him a new set. I've recently discovered how bad some decent looking dice can be. One of my friends is capable of rolling a 20 on his d20 a vast majority of the time if he rolls it gently allowing it enough movement to settle on its side of least...

Hit Probability is a Slippery Slope

Not totally correct - lightly armored also gets +27 (+4 from main stat (ideally), +2 from masterwork, +15 from level, +6 from magic enhancement) Also theres the armor proficiency feats for another +1, so thats +28 now, so almost there. I still can't account for the 4 points in the attack...

    Invisible Paladin

Here's another even easier to set up scenario for you. A warlock taking the paladin multi-class feat. Eyebite the target and then apply the Divine Challenge. Now you *are* invisible to the target.
