    [D&D 5e 2024] Heroes of the Borderlands

Fantastic battle scene. I felt every sword-swing, axe-strike and magic missile.

D&D 5E (2024) What 2024 class have you played the most

So far, I've only played one character in D&D 2024; a rogue in Drakkenheim. Plus I've DM-ed a party consisting of an illusionist, a cleric, a fighter and a warlock. I anticipate my next character to be either a bard or a fighter in an upcoming game.

D&D 5E (2014) What is your favorite encounter site or dungeon from an official module?

So many memorable encounters mentioned above. I always liked the dungeons beneath the Steading of the Hill Giant Chief. It included rebellious orcs, prisoners to free, a fire giant “guest worker”, hints at Eclavdra’s role and, best of all, a truly scary lost chapel to a truly dark deity...

How do you like to start a campaign

I intend to start my upcoming Call of Cthulhu (1920s) campaign by sending players details of the world in 1925 and also full pen pictures of an influential English aristocrat, his extended family and his staff. Players will be asked to create their own contextual backgrounds for 1925 and to...

Around the World in Eighty Days: A Campaign

Back in the late 70s/early 80s, Dragon mag ran a series of articles called "Voyage of the Princess Ark" which told the adventures of an airship navigating/exploring a campaign world (I can't remember which world). If you can find them anywhere, the series might be useful for ideas.

What's the best die type and why is it the d12?

The d8, because I like longswords.

    Dragon Reflections #100

Very true, but tbh I just "embraced the gonzo" and played the adventure as written, even though I was born and raised in London.

D&D General Which Campaign or Adventure Would You Adapt To Prestige Television?

I think both Saltmarsh and Enemy Within would be great choices. Personally, I'd go for; Series 1; Against the Giants Series 2 (hopefully, and with a bigger budget following success of season 1!): D1-3 The G series would involve three very different scenic environments, with hints of a deeper...

What was your 1st RPG and what was your favourite campaign about or best memory?

OD&D White Box back in 1976. I was 13 and a lad (Dave) from the year above had the game and ran a dungeon for myself and my mate, Phil. I played a fighter called Aelric and Phil played Amroth, a wizard. We ended up getting killed by orcs, but that sense of wonder, fear, adventure and...

    [D&D 5e 2024] Heroes of the Borderlands

Such an engaging and evocative story. We can feel the pained desperation of the adventurers, as they try to fortify a brief refuge, and that horrible feeling as a huge monster breaks in.

D&D 5E (2024) Ed Greenwood to Publish 4 New Forgotten Realms Sourcebooks in 2026

@TheSword Think this thread might appeal!

D&D General Highest level PC you've achieved.

1E: 23rd Level Fighter in a campaign that ran through latter stages of school and through university holidays. He still holds a place in my heart! Since then, I’ve never got a character close to Level 20. I think my highest character was Level 16 in Odyssey of the Dragonlords.

TSR On the Relative Merits of the TSR Editions

For me, it never has been about the merits of the rulesets, but all about the nostalgia and the memories. Memories of exploring dungeons and wilderlands. Memories of painting figures. Memories of friends. So for me, OD&D and 1E mean everything.

    [D&D 5e 2024] Heroes of the Borderlands

This story hour is superb. I'm invested in the characters as they play through a classic adventure that holds so many wonderful memories. Thank you again for taking the time to write this.

    Favorite mythological creature

Very fond of the ghost horse that haunts the road between East and West Malling (where i went to primary school for a while) and kills vicars if they travel the road at night. I'm planning to mix the story up with the Horse of the Invisible Cthulhu module from an old White Dwarf in an upcoming...

    Want to play a Duck?

Ah, Runequest. Loved the setting and the game but never played a duck; probably my fault for lack of adventurous spirit. I did DM a 2E game where the wizard used a polymorph self scroll to turn into a duck (his choice!) to escape a pack of dire wolves. It didn't end well!

    What was your 2nd RPG?

My first was OD&D in late 1976. As to my second; memory is a bit hazy, but it was either Chivalry & Sorcery or the short-lived UK game Bifrost. I certainly preferred Bifrost to C&S. Gamma World followed soon after.

D&D General What D&D Would You Use For A Dungeon Focused Campaign?

I’d opt for Shadowdark because the lantern rules and the no darkvision seem perfect for creating the dungeon atmosphere. An atmosphere of rough-hewn stone, dusty webs, cracked doors and distant sounds.

What's Your Bucket List Campaign to Play?

I've ticked (well, almost finished) the box of playing through the wonderful Enemy Within (big thanks to GM @TheSword ) in WFRP. I've been fortunate enough to have run the G1-3 and D1-3 series back in AD&D days and also run Night Below too. GM-wise, I've never run CoC, but I will be doing so...
