The problem I have with the term species is that orcs humans and elves are biologically the same species as they can reproduce with each other. Yet they are presented as different species. They're all Humans.

The roll tables are great. But there is just too much text in the stat block. And that ability table is just hard to read.

Did you consider Peril in Pine Brook for an easer D&D experience? Did you consider any other TTRPGs with easier mechanics to grasp? I personally recommend Teenage Mutant Tunnel Goons by JP Coovert for kids. It's easy to grasp and it's fun rolling up a character.
