    GURPS 4th Edition Revised Announced

Disagree with you there, it's really funny since you fit with it so well considering your anti-zeitgeist stance.

    Contemporary Simulationist TTRPGs [+]

ACKS 2 released this year and their discord is quite active. His youtube channel does get pretty decent views too. I don't disagree that Simulationism is unpopular however.

    Contemporary Simulationist TTRPGs [+]

I mean those three are pretty big name games. I'd also say that the prolifreration of very detailed equipment list back then as a sign that Simulationism was the norm in design.

The Many Faces of Roleplaying: How ‘RPG’ Became Everything and Nothing

VtM is a terrible example of 'picking a lane' it failed so much in it that it created the Forge.

D&D General 5e System Redesign through New Classes and Setting. A Thought Experiment.

My view is that WotC should have made a world that better allows putting in some weirdo species. Golarion does it by basically having several different genre settings as locations.

D&D 5E (2024) Mike Mearls explains why your boss monsters die too easily

Ah I was thinking of 'hitting as hard and taking hits just as well as a fighter'

D&D 5E (2024) Mike Mearls explains why your boss monsters die too easily

And I think that sucks naughty word that a wizard can spend spell slots to be as effective as a fighter.

D&D 5E (2024) Mike Mearls explains why your boss monsters die too easily

Instead of trying to bring back attrition, what's the best way to challenge a party that do just want to be at full HP and slots the entire time?

At that point, the DM can just save themselves a few hundred bucks and just play in FKR or even go forum/discord RP.

D&D 5E (2024) Mike Mearls explains why your boss monsters die too easily

I think political intrigue with lots of personal drama is the worst, boardgamey is one of the playstyles that it should be good at IMO.

D&D 5E (2024) Mike Mearls explains why your boss monsters die too easily

D&D isn't Monsterheart where engagement in the fiction is a baseline for the rules to even actually work so maybe they should--I have played games and sessions in PF2 and ICON where the the underlying world just didn't matter to my enjoyment; playtest sessions, pure 'run through this gauntlet of...

What Do You Think Of As "Modern TTRPG Mechanics"?

To be clear, what I meant by anti-verisimilitudousness are stuff like how GMs should allow plans of action that are 'cool' by minimizing negative repercussions or making the plan work better than it should be than if believability mattered more; Plans such as the classic swinging from...

D&D General 5e System Redesign through New Classes and Setting. A Thought Experiment.

Have we seen any 'Essentials-like' style of design in other games though? I think maybe it's 13th age like?

What Do You Think Of As "Modern TTRPG Mechanics"?

    Maybe something about PC/NPC mirroring?

What Do You Think Of As "Modern TTRPG Mechanics"?

Not design specifically, but I wonder if there's a large section of modern audiences that have active disinterest or even vehemently against verisimilitude as a goal or reason for rulings/rules design

What Do You Think Of As "Modern TTRPG Mechanics"?

I personally do consider that if most of a game's NPC's stats can be put onto a PC char sheet then that is a non-modern mechanic/design because VtM does that and I think VTM marks the very edge of non-modern game design that isn't D&D
